Do You Have God Sight?

Reflections on Proverbs 3:1-12

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” Proverbs 3:5&6

Like most people, I play games on my Kindle reader, when I have time. One game I seem to play on a regular basis is called “Simon’s Cat: Pop Time. What I like about this game is that it will often tell me that I have owl vision. What this means is when I select a color to shoot, every balloon of the color lights up, to show me the best path to play. Also, there is a feature that looks around corners that I can’t see, but Owl Sight shows the way. What I like about this feature is that it gives insight that I didn’t before.

The Book of Proverbs and other books of wisdom literature in the Bible (Job, Psalms, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Songs) are here to develop believers' faith with God's sight. Several times throughout the Old Testament we hear this famous thought:” Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.” Proverbs 9:10 This is the basis of our faith, to fear (honor and respect) the Lord and seek his knowledge, which results in a believer receiving God sight.

One may wonder what is the benefit of having God sight and how does one receive it? The benefit of having God sight is to see the world's activities and your personal situations with different eyes, the way God sees them. First of all, we need to understand that all people, as different as they may be from yourself, God loves them. Anyone who calls upon him helps with all his power; if people let him. Increasing in the knowledge of God draws God closer to the believer because they are open to his will. In so doing, he will direct us in ways we don’t see or understand. But he does. It is in trusting God that his sight can be obtained by everyone who believes.

To grow in the knowledge of God, we need to be aware that God is working at all times to improve the lives of all people. By reading scriptures of his promise to all people, by trusting in God’s presence to help at all times, and by walking by faith in his guidance, God sight is experienced, and we are given new eyes of love and compassion.

Dear Lord, I used to feel that saying a prayer now and then brings me close to you. But now I understand your desire to be close to me as I want to be close to you. Give me your sight of compassion for all people. Amen.
