Joyce (Clark) Halt, 96, of

Angola (formerly of North

Liberty) passed away at her daughter’s home on Monday

Nov. 27, 2023.

Joyce was born in North

Liberty on July 31, 1927, to the late George and Hazel (Steele)

Clark.

Joyce attended Bethany

Seminary in Chicago for one year, then Bethel University obtaining her bachelor’s degree and later attended Indiana University where she earned her master’s degree. She was an elementary school teacher for 22 years for the South Bend Community School Corporatio­n.

Joyce married Elmer George Halt on Aug. 31, 1947, in North Liberty, sharing 73 years of marriage before his passing in 2021. Together they had 5 children.

Joyce was a 96-year member of the Pine Creek Church of the Brethren where she was a deacon for 55 years. She was a volunteer chaplain for St. Joseph’s Medical Center-plymouth and was the 1981 NRTA School Teacher of the Year. She enjoyed her Bible Study group and the last 3 years she enjoyed attending Hudson United Brethren Church, when she was not coming home to Pine Creek Church.

Joyce is survived by her daughters: Judy Astle of Angola, Dr. Susan (Greg) Mauk of Fremont, daughterin-law Laraine (Halt) George of Missouri, son: David Halt of Marysville, OH, daughter of the heart Yuko Mori of Japan, Grandchild­ren: Ben (Jennifer) Hughes, Jennifer (Erik) Robelli, Sue (Andrew) Keller, Jeremy (Melissa) Westafer, Amanda (Jake) Felkner, Melissa Mauk, Ariel (Steven) Bokshan, and Cassie Halt, as well as 16 great-grandchild­ren: Tyler, Celia, and Eliana Robelli, Morgan and Paige Keller, Cain and Riley Felkner, Taylor Westafer, Aiden and Ethan Hughes, Andy, Ashleigh and Callie Calderwood, George O’dwyer, George and Maximus Bokshan. Also surviving is one brother: Jim (Donna) Clark.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; Elmer Halt, her daughter; Mary Stratton, her son Gary Halt, grandchild­ren; Andy Mauk and Katy Mauk, and her siblings; Keith Clark, Donald Clark, Kenneth Clark, Lloyd Clark, and Lucy Claudio.

Visitation for Joyce will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday Dec. 2, 2023 at the Pine Creek Church of the Brethren, 25075 Stanton Rd. North Liberty. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. in the church and Joyce will be laid to rest at Fair Cemetery.

Memorial contributi­ons in Joyce’s name may be made to the Pine Creek Church of the Brethren.
