Academies’ Athletes of the Month
CULVER — Emma Zimpleman and Evan Tompkins have been awarded March 2024 Student-athletes of the Month for the Culver Academies.
Emma Zimpleman is a member of the CGA Track and Field team.
She broke the CGA indoor 60-meter record on March 9 at the Indiana Wesleyan University Hoosier State Relays Qualifier meet, with a time of 8.12, previously held by Addi Coy ‘17 with a time of 8.14 and set the new sophomore 60m record with her time of 8.12. Emma finished first in the 100m and 4x100m relay and second in the 200m at Culver’s first meet
Coach Michael Chastain noted that Zimpleman is working hard to improve and to become the best sprinter possible.
“She is competitive but works well with teammates in helping them also become better,” he said.
CGA counselor Carolyn Davidge said Zimpleman is a dedicated and conscientious student, athlete, and community member.
“She sets a great example with her attitude and her actions and is a positive influence in the dorm,” she said.
Evan Tompkins is a member of the CMA Prep Hockey team.
Helped lead his team to the USA Hockey National Tournament posting back-to-back shutouts, one being in the championship game of the Midam District Tournament which secured the Prep team’s bid to Nationals. He has a .937 Save Percentage and 1.87 Goals Against Average
Coach Kevin Patrick noted that Tompkins has achieved all this while playing one of the hardest schedules in the country.
CMA counselor Andrew Melshen said Tompkins has been a workhorse in all facets of Culver during his 4-year career.
“He has excelled academically and modeled the way as a man of integrity, leading to his selection as the Battery A member of the Honor Council. As a leader, Evan began the year as the Unit Commander in Battery A and has taken a role on the Regimental Staff during the 2nd make as the Regimental Aide to Admissions/ Alumni,” Melshen said. “Evan is a diligent worker that encourages and inspires growth to all those around him.”
