PLYMOUTH — During the Monday meeting of the Plymouth Park Board, the board heard from Park Superintendent Mike Hite, requests from different organizations and an update on the Friends of the Park 5K from Liz Richie.

The meeting started with Hite’s report. He spoke about how the pickleball and youth courts were recently paved. Now there is a 30 day waiting period for this to cure. He shared that while work is paused for the 30 day period the contractor is working on getting fencing put in as well as some concrete work that is needed.

Once the 30 day curing period is over Hite said that the contractor would come in and do the rest of the work that is needed. Once all of this is done, pickleball can start to be played.

Richie, who is the Youth Services Supervisor of the Plymouth Public Library, told the board that one of the summer reading grand prizes was a pickleball set.

Plymouth Park Board President Mike Kershner said that the courts look good so far and it has people talking. He said that he thinks it will be a great addition.

The board then discussed a request for a refund for Jemmy Hernandez’s deposit for the Webster Recreation Center on June 15. This refund would not include the $15 administration fee. This request was accepted by the board.

a request from The Boys and Girls Club was then discussed. The club was requesting to use the Plymouth pool again this summer for a flat fee of $300. Kershner said that this is what they have done in the past, he thought it was a win-win for everyone involved. This request was also approved.

another request was then brought up, this time for the P-town Cruz’n Car Show. They were requesting the free use of the VFW Shelter on June 8. Kershner said that this has become a yearly event. The board approved the request.

Delta Theta Tau also made a request. This was for a family pool pass to be donated for their fundraising efforts. The board approved the request.

Richie then gave an update on the Friends of the Park. She shared that the Friends of the Park 5K will be taking place on Saturday, May 11 at 10 a.m. at River Park Square This event will be used to help raise funds for playground equipment and to raise awareness for the Friends of the Park. There is no cost to take part, people can give a free will donation. Registration begins at 9 a.m.

She said that more things will come after this event.

Abby Collins, the Recreation and Pool Director of the Plymouth Park Department, shared that they would be asking for two family pool passes, these would go to the winner of the men’s division and the women’s division. The board approved this request.

Kershner said that it sounds like the Friends of the Park is starting off well.

Hite then let the board know that on Tuesday, May 7 water would be put in the pool.

The next Plymouth Park Board meeting will be on Monday, June 3 at 5 p.m. at the Conservation Clubhouse.
