Message from Mayor Robert Listenberger
Happy May, everyone! The weather is starting to shape up and it is going to be a wonderful spring! The Farmer’s Market has its opening day this weekend and it’s Mother’s Day weekend! Be sure to celebrate the special ladies in your life.
On Saturday, April 27th I had the extreme pleasure of attending a Liberty Tree dedication ceremony organized by the Daughters of the American Revolution. This wonderful event took place in River Park Square in Downtown Plymouth. Former Mayor Senter and I had the opportunity to speak during the event. The City of Plymouth truly appreciates this planting of this Liberty Tree to celebrate our Country’s Semiquincentennial.
On Monday, May 27th, at 11:00 am, the community will gather at the New Oakhill Cemetery for a solemn Memorial Day ceremony to honor all our fallen heroes. This annual event serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by brave men and women who have fought and died for our nation’s freedom.
The ceremony will commence with the National Anthem played by the Plymouth High School Band, followed by a heartfelt invocation. Veterans from various branches of the military will be present. A wreath-laying ceremony will be held prior to this ceremony at the Marshall County Courthouse at 10:00 am and on the Thomas Chamberlin Bridge at approximately 10:30 am in memory of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
Guest speakers will deliver inspiring words, reminding us of the importance of remembering and honoring our fallen heroes. The ceremony will create a time for reflection and gratitude.
This Memorial Day, let us not only remember the fallen but also appreciate the freedoms they fought for. We owe them an immeasurable debt of gratitude and honor, and this ceremony provides an opportunity to express our heartfelt appreciation. All members of the community are invited to attend this meaningful event and join in honoring our fallen heroes. Next Friday and Saturday I get to spend the day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for a couple of events. Fast Friday and Breakfast at the Brickyard will be hosting Indiana Mayors from all over the state. I am excited to get to spend time with over 80 Mayors and to experience the excitement of the IMS.
I hope everyone has a wonderful month! Get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather!*
