Join the discussion Nov. 29 on coal ash

The water quality threats we face nationally are amplified for Chesterfield County. The Chesterfield Power Plant, situated near the bucolic “Dutch Gap” turn of the James River, is a local example of leaching coal ash ponds, adjacent to a major waterway. Low tide brings evidence of seeping arsenic and testing by the James River Association shows chemical levels equivalent to a Superfund site. A recent risk assessment confirmed health risks related to the location.

Dominion Energy was required to provide additional recycling analysis and to re-examine moving coal ash from the current unlined pits across Virginia. This report was required after their December 2017 analysis which did not fully explore recycling options. There is welcome news of the demand for recycled coal ash both nationally and internationally and supplementing that demand is local need touted by those in the construction and concrete industry. Removal and recycling of coal ash is economically and environmentally preferable.

The bipartisan support for removal of the coal ash is an indicator of what this issue is and isn’t – it is not only an environmental threat, but it is a real and alarming health threat for anyone living in the vicinity. Support for removal has been pushed in the General Assembly by Democrat Senator Scott Surovell and Republican State Senator Amanda Chase.

superior race of human beings would not want to bully, oppress, or enslave anyone, especially depriving others from at least having the privilege of learning how to read.

It is very easy for someone to claim Superior Status when they have been blessed with such a loving, cultural, value-based family legacy, advantageous education, superior nutrition, free labor, and a prosperous head start. Why would you not want others to at least learn to read, etc.? You write the books that only glorify your own culture and history. You change the rules when others are A challenge to your superior status.

A superior race of people would not have to wear sheets, burn crosses, and sneak around at night to intimidate and carry out vicious acts of cruelty towards others. An educated and intelligent superior race of people would lead by the example of being the best that they can be, all the while demonstrating, teaching and encouraging others less fortunate how they too can become their best selves.

If there is competition or conflict, you should want to win when others are at their absolute best. There is no glory in winning when your opponents’ hands are tied behind their backs or the playing field is severely uneven. When you win and others aren’t very skillful, it negates your superiority.

A house or nation divided against itself cannot stand. Where our attention goes, our energy flows.

From one miraculous, microscopic speck of sperm and egg DNA’ed with the spirit of love, and made in the image of God, to another, I come in peace. Let’s focus on a more harmonious existence and our collective survival! The Human Race! Understanding Tolerance
