On Saturday, November 24, the Lord called home a loving husband, amazing father, and kick-ass Pawpaw. Gary had lived 68 years, born August 18, 1950, in Edison, New Jersey. After a strong fight with aggressive CreutzfeldtJakob disease, Gary passed peacefully in his sleep.
Gary was always available to lend a helping hand, encourage kids to use bad manners, and lovingly give everyone a hard time. He used to say that he “hated everyone, just some less than others,” but that statement was far from true. He loved everyone and helped us learn to laugh at ourselves. Gary loved the Lord, and God has held us in His hand throughout this journey.
Gary connected with many neighbors, churchmates, and coworkers throughout his life. He made fond memories with his Banana Boat crew, Rack Room kids, his coworkers at Top Gun Power Washing & Painting, and people at Pep Boys and Staples Automotive. He was always around his kids’ hangouts and many of their friends remember Gary fondly.
Gary is survived by his soulmate of 44 years, Luukie Nemeth; brothers, Gene Nemeth, Rick Nemeth, and Bill “Ranger” Antonucci; four cousins who were like sisters, Patty, Linda, Janie, & Nancy; three children, Catina Chapman (Josh), Cody Nemeth (Addie), and Cassie Wolfe (Tommy); eleven grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and several friends who were considered family.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital Neurology Department, Dinwiddie Rehabilitation Center, and McGuire Veterans Hospital Journey’s Way Hospice Unit for their excellent care of Gary and compassion extended to the family since September.
Our family greatly appreciates your prayers and condolences. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the CJD foundation. This rare disease takes sufferers often within a year of diagnosis. There is no cure, and little is known about how sufferers experience the disease, as communication becomes difficult.
A service will be held Saturday, December 8, at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary’s Love Ministries in Hopewell, VA. A reception will follow, location to be announced at the church.
