On Tues­day morn­ing, Novem­ber 27, 2018, God called our beloved brother, un­cle and friend to come home. A good and faith­ful ser­vant, Rev­erend Leroy Rhone obe­di­ently reached out to touch the Master’s hand and tran­si­tioned from his earthly place to be with the Lord.

Rev­erend Rhone is a na­tive of Lunen­burg and Brunswick coun­ties. He was born in Lunen­burg County to the late Dea­con and Dea­coness Robert Rhone of Mered­ithville, Vir­ginia. On Septem­ber 8, 1938, he ac­cepted Christ at an early age and was bap­tized at the Friend­ship Bap­tist Church in Ken­bridge, Vir­ginia. Later, his fam­ily moved to Brunswick County and united with the Union Church of Mered­ithville based on Chris­tian ex­pe­ri­ence. While at Union Church, he was fur­ther in­doc­tri­nated in Chris­tian fel­low­ship.

Rev­erend Rhone at­tended ele­men­tary and sec­ondary pub­lic schools in Brunswick County. He con­tin­ued his ed­u­ca­tion at Vir­ginia State Univer­sity in Peters­burg, John Tyler Com­mu­nity Col­lege and J. Sar­gent Reynolds Com­mu­nity Col­lege. He re­ceived an Honorary Doc­tor­ate of Di­vin­ity degree from the Rich­mond Vir­ginia Sem­i­nary, and an as­so­ciate’s degree in Church Ad­min­is­tra­tion from the Vir­ginia Union Univer­sity School of The­ol­ogy.

He an­swered his call to the min­istry in 1970. In 1971 he was li­censed at the Lone Oak Bap­tist Church, Chase City,Vir­ginia, and was elected as pas­tor of Lone Oak in 1982. He was later elected to Bethany Bap­tist Church in Ken­bridge and the Union Bap­tist Church in Amelia, Vir­ginia. He has been the pas­tor of the Union Bap­tist Church, Amelia, Vir­ginia, for 36 years.

Rev­erend Rhone has held var­i­ous po­si­tions in the past, such as Sec­re­tary of the Bap­tist Min­is­ters Con­fer­ence of Peters­burg and Vicin­ity, Cor­re­spond­ing Sec­re­tary for the Bap­tist Con­fer­ence, Black­stone, Vir­ginia, Co­or­di­na­tor for the de­part­ment of Univer­sity Re­la­tions, and 2nd Mod­er­a­tor of the Ebenezer As­so­ci­a­tion.

Rev­erend Rhone was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents, Dea­con Robert and Dea­coness Alice Rhone; two broth­ers, Robert Rhone Jr. and Ge­orge L. Rhone; and one sis­ter, Emily Mose­ley Jones.

Rev­erend Rhone leaves his legacy of love to be cher­ished by his four sis­ters, Alice Flan­ni­gan of Rich­mond, Vir­ginia, Lena Rainey (Fred) of Arlington, Vir­ginia, Julia Can­dia of Rich­mond, Vir­ginia, and Joann Chris­tian (Ma­jor) of Al­berta, Vir­ginia; one brother, James Rhone (Jackie) of Ch­e­sa­peake, Vir­ginia; and a host of nieces, neph­ews and friends. A spe­cial thanks to our sis­ter, Alice Flan­ni­gan for her ded­i­ca­tion to our brother dur­ing his ill­ness.

Homego­ing ser­vice for Rev. Rhone will be held 12 p.m., Sat­ur­day, De­cem­ber 1, 2018, at Union Bap­tist Church, 3701 Namozine Rd., Church Road, VA., Rev­erend War­ren Mays of Sec­ond Bap­tist Church Me­dia, Penn­syl­va­nia, eu­lo­gist. In­ter­ment will fol­low at the church ceme­tery. In lieu of flow­ers, the fam­ily re­quest that con­tri­bu­tions be made to the Union Bap­tist Church Build­ing Fund.
