Don­ald Levine Hogwood, 92, of Prince Ge­orge, VA, left his earthly home on Sun­day, Dec. 2, 2018, when the heav­enly an­gel vis­ited him and said “your job on earth is done, come with me and rest.” Don­ald was a lov­ing hus­band, fa­ther, step­fa­ther, grand­fa­ther and great-grand­fa­ther; loyal friend to many and a true Pa­triot. He was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents, Christo­pher C. and Cather­ine Col­lier Hogwood; daugh­ter Ch­eryl Ayn Hogwood Stech; and son Charl­ton Bond Hogwood. He is sur­vived by his devoted wife, Anona (Getchell Estes) Hogwood “Noni;” sons Christo­pher G. Hogwood, Chan­non Beau Hogwood (Sylvia); daugh­ters Chal­lis Smith, Chawn Har­ris, Chana King, and Dolle­don Hogwood; step-chil­dren, Deb­ora Estes, Kim­berly Estes Cle­ments (Wil­liam), Derek S. Estes (Kathy), and Dana K. Estes (Betty); nu­mer­ous grand­chil­dren and great­grand­chil­dren; and his most re­cent love, Goldie (grey­hound).

Don­ald was born in Peters­burg, Va on Nov. 16, 1926. He lived in Et­trick, VA, un­til he left high school to en­list in the Navy in 1943. He served in the south pa­cific un­til he was hon­or­ably dis­charged in July 1947. Don­ald re­turned to high school and then to NC State Univ. He mar­ried Eleanor Bond and they had eight chil­dren. Don­ald mar­ried Anona Estes in 1989. He re­tired from Otis El­e­va­tor Com­pany 1989. Don­ald and Noni were faith­ful mem­bers/at­ten­dees of St. Michael’s Epis­co­pal Church in Colo­nial Heights. He was a mem­ber of Ma­sonic Lodge Bland­ford 15 AF&AM and ACCA Shrine Cen­ter in Rich­mond, ACCA Shrine Mo­tor Pa­trol and a Char­ter mem­ber of Manch­ester Shrine Club. Don­ald truly ex­em­pli­fied the shrine motto “No man stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child.” Re­cently he be­came ac­tive in James River Grey­hounds, an adop­tion agency for find­ing for­ever homes for re­tired rac­ers. We re­ceived Goldie through this group.

A me­mo­rial ser­vice and Ma­sonic ser­vice will be held on Tues­day Dec. 11th, at 11am at St. Michael’s Epis­co­pal Church, 501 Old Town Drive, Colo­nial Heights, VA 23834. Re­cep­tion in the fel­low­ship hall to fol­low. In­ter­ment will be pri­vate.
