Inmate death at Riverside Jail
PRINCE GEORGE — An inmate at Riverside Regional Jail was discovered dead in his cell on Saturday. Jail officials say the cause of death is unknown, but it appears to be from suicide.
The inmate Joseph Mcalpine, 27, was discovered unresponsive in his cell around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday night. The staff immediately began administering CPR to Mcalpine, and called Prince George EMS to the jail. They were unable to revive him.
Riverside Regional Jail has begun an internal investigation into the matter and will be submitting a required report to the Board of Corrections.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the official cause of death.
Mcalpine was being held
for two felony charges: enticing a minor to perform in pornography, and proposing a sex act by a communications system. His trial was scheduled for June 6, 2018.
