In­mate death at River­side Jail

PRINCE GE­ORGE — An in­mate at River­side Re­gional Jail was dis­cov­ered dead in his cell on Satur­day. Jail of­fi­cials say the cause of death is un­known, but it ap­pears to be from suicide.

The in­mate Joseph Mcalpine, 27, was dis­cov­ered un­re­spon­sive in his cell around 11:30 p.m. on Satur­day night. The staff im­me­di­ately be­gan ad­min­is­ter­ing CPR to Mcalpine, and called Prince Ge­orge EMS to the jail. They were un­able to re­vive him.

River­side Re­gional Jail has be­gun an in­ter­nal in­ves­ti­ga­tion into the mat­ter and will be sub­mit­ting a re­quired re­port to the Board of Cor­rec­tions.

The Of­fice of the Chief Med­i­cal Ex­am­iner will de­ter­mine the of­fi­cial cause of death.

Mcalpine was be­ing held

for two felony charges: en­tic­ing a mi­nor to per­form in pornog­ra­phy, and propos­ing a sex act by a com­mu­ni­ca­tions sys­tem. His trial was sched­uled for June 6, 2018.
