Mrs. Bernice McCain, 68, of 1024 West South Blvd., Petersburg, Virginia, entered eternal rest peacefully Wednesday morning, April 11, 2018 at the John Randolph Medical Center. She was born March 16, 1950 in Prince George County, to the late Deacon Benjamin Myrick, Sr., and the late Deaconess Sallie Myrick. She received her primary education in the Dinwiddie County Public School System, and was a graduate of the Southside High School Class of 1968. She was a dedicated employee of Southside Regional Medical Center for 43 years.
At an early age, she confessed Christ, was baptized, and became a member of Providence Baptist Church, Prince George, Virginia. She served the Lord in whatever capacity she could. She previously served as an Usher, Sunday School Secretary, Vacation Bible School Director, Advisor for the Busy Bee Youth Ministry, and Boy Scouts. She also was a member of the Church Finance Board, and member of the Brenda Mae Bonner Memorial Choir. Deaconess McCain was the present Church Clerk, and also served in the following ministries faithfully: Missionary, Deaconess, and Pastors Aide.
Not only was she whol heartedly involved with her home church, she possessed a true love for Missions and outreach. For many years, she has served the Bethany Baptist Association diligently as Treasurer. The Convention depended upon her leadership and the members enjoyed working with her in various activities.
Within Prince George County, she was a former member of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and the NAACP. She served as Chairperson of the Scholarship Committee for the Fellowship of Churches, Prince George and Vicinity. Bernice was a member of the Womens Fellowship Breakfast Group, Petersburg, Virginia.
At the time of her passing, she was the President of the Virginia Baptist State Convention Womens Auxiliary. She was a regular attendee and worked tirelessly with the National Baptist Convention, Inc. USA., having served the Womens Division, always making sure the Virginia Delegates were in order for the Grand Womens March. Bernice was a member of the Poplar Grove Chapter #`1307, having served as a Past Worthy Matron. She was a former member of the ABWA, and member of the Board of Trustees for Virginia University of Lynchburg.
Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Rev. Anthony Myrick, Sr., and Deacon Brian Myrick, a mother in law, Virginia McCain, and a GodSister, Dr. Joan Cummings, M.D.
She has left to treasure her precious memories, a loving husband, John T. McCain, her loving children, Tyree McCain (Candace), and Ericka Aikens; grandchildren, Akira and Callen Aikens, Lyla and Bryce McCain; two sisters, Margaret Dickerson (Rev. Willie), and Jacquelyne Myrick two brothers, Deacon, Benjamin Myrick, III (Glenice), and Warren Myrick; father in law, John McCain; a sisters in law, Shelia Myrick; Shirley McCain, Marva Cook (Michael),
Mary Vanessa Johnson (Ronald), Roberta Ragland (Dennis), Jessie McCain, Linda McCain, Brenda Scales (David); three aunts, Rosa Gee, Bernice Myrick and Carrie Bonner; a host of loving nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services for Bernice McCain will be held 12 noon, Saturday April 21, 2018 at the Union Branch Baptist Church 3356 Union Branch Road, Petersburg VA, Dr. Sylvia Tucker officiating and Rev. Dr. Charles Whitfield, President of the VA Baptist State Convention, eulogizing.
Interment will follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park. Public viewing will be held Friday April 20, 2018 from 10-4 p.m. at the Petersburg Chapel and from 6-7 p.m., Friday April 20 2018 at Providence Baptist Church, 15901 Providence Road, S. Prince George, VA.
The family will receive family and friends starting Monday April 16, 2018 from 6-9 pm at the home place 27904 Perkins Rd., N. Dinwiddie, VA
