VHSL Top 20 rankings
Week 6’s outcomes shook up the order for teams in the Central District as all teams in the district changed positions in their respective Top 20 Virginia High School League football rankings. Well, all except one. Dinwiddie Football remains the top team in a standout Region 4B, taking down Matoaca 42-13 to improve to a still-unbeaten mark of 6-0. The Generals lead two fellow undefeated programs in Eastern View (7-0) and Louisa (6-0) and fourth-place Monacan (5-1). Midlothian and Huguenot rank sixth and seventh, respectively.
Region 3A saw Hopewell (5-0) move out of first place despite the Blue Devils staying unbeaten last Friday. Their move down to second place had to do with the points earned, as they beat fellow Class 3 school Colonial Heights (2-3) while Phoebus (4-1) took first on a victory over larger Class 5 school Bethel (1-6).
The loss against Hopewell bumped Colonial Heights out of the top eight and into the 10th spot. Also in the region, Petersburg (5-1) rose to fourth place - the last team to get a home game slot for the first round of the playoffs after stunning Class 5 Prince George (3-3) on a wild 36-33 comeback.
The loss didn’t hurt the Royals’ standing too much as they remain in the top eight, albeit dropping one spot to eighth in Region 5B. If the season were to end today,
they would have to face Chesterfield school L.C. Bird, who jumped up to #1 in the region on an unbeaten record of 6-0.
Matoaca (0-6) and Meadowbrook (0-6) each dropped one spot to 13th and 14th, respectively.
In Region 6B, Thomas Dale (4-2) moved up one spot to fourth place — the last team to get a home game in the first round of the playoffs — after
defeating Meadowbrook 27-6.
Also in the Midlothianheavy region, Colonial Forge (7-0) ranks first, Manchester (6-0) sits second, Cosby (4-2) holds third, Clover Hill (4-3) ranks fifth and James River (0-7) rounds out the top eight with
only eight teams in the region.
This Friday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.

Colonial Heights will look to get back into the top eight of its region against hosting Matoaca, who looks to end its six-game winless skid.
