Early Satur­day morn­ing, Oc­to­ber 6, 2018, God in His in­fi­nite wis­dom sum­moned our loved one, Mr. Carl­ton H. Ma­son, Jr., af­fec­tion­ately known as “Carl­ton Jr., Ju­nior or 12.” He was born De­cem­ber 6, 1966, to An­nie D. Ma­son and the late Carl­ton H. Ma­son, Sr. He was bap­tized at an early age at Union Grove Bap­tist Church, South Ch­ester­field.

He was a grad­u­ate of Ma­toaca High School, Class of 1986. While in high school, he ex­celled in sports es­pe­cially foot­ball where he played as a out­stand­ing run­ning back for the Ma­toaca War­riors.

Carl­ton served as one of the coaches for the Ma­toaca Youth Ath­let­ics, Inc. (MYA). His love and com­pas­sion for the sport and play­ers af­forded him the op­por­tu­nity to men­tor youth in the po­si­tions of run­ning back and de­fen­sive back. Coach 12, was more than just a coach in the MYA fam­ily, he was a teacher about life and also a good lis­tener that gave good ad­vise.

He loved his grand­chil­dren, fam­ily and friends and was very pro­tec­tive of them. Carl­ton was his mother’s care­giver af­ter the death of his sis­ter. He was an avid Oak­land Raiders fan.

Carl­ton Jr. was pre­ceded in death by his fa­ther, Carl­ton H. Ma­son, Sr.; sis­ter, An­drea Ma­son; ma­ter­nal grand­par­ents, Ker­mit and Cor­rine Pow­ell; pa­ter­nal grand­par­ents, Austin and Lucy Cain; aunt, Vida Pow­ell; and un­cle, Al­fred Ma­son, Sr.

Carl­ton leaves to cher­ish his pre­cious mem­o­ries: one son, Tyquwan Reed (Amy) of South Ch­ester­field, VA; grand­chil­dren, Nathan, Vic­to­ria and Zay­den; a lov­ing and de­voted mother, An­nie D. Ma­son of South Ch­ester­field, VA; god-mother, Daisy Baugh of Peters­burg, VA; five aunts, Velois Evans (James) of Et­trick, VA, Irma Jones of Dewitt, VA, Carolyn Jor­dan (Sher­man ) of Din­wid­die, VA, San­dra Ma­son and Ar­lene Moore, both of Ch­ester­field, VA; sev­eral cousins like broth­ers, Al­fred Ma­son, Jr., Gar­rett Ma­son, Jef­fery Ma­son, Eric Ma­son and Wil­liam Brown, Jr.; and a host of de­voted cousins, other rel­a­tives and friends too nu­mer­ous to name.

Ser­vices will be held 3:00 p.m., Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 14, 2018, at Chil­dren's Home of Vir­ginia Bap­tist, 6900 Hick­ory Road, South Ch­ester­field, VA, the Rev. Wil­liam E. John­son III, Pas­tor of Union Grove Bap­tist Church, South Ch­ester­field, VA. The in­ter­ment will be held at the Ma­son Fam­ily Ceme­tery.

The fam­ily will assemble 2:00 p.m. the day of the ser­vice and will also re­ceive friends at 20422 Church Road, South Ch­ester­field, VA.
