Vernon Johns Middle School in Petersburg receives new piano

PETERSBURG — Vernon Johns Middle School’s music program has a piano, thanks to a generous donation by a Petersburg family.

The piano belonged to Sita Nance, who died in 2016. It was donated by her daughter, Judith Ligon, and her granddaughter, Dr. Rachel Clarke, who said they wanted to support student musicians in Nance’s memory.

The well-maintained piano by Chickering and Sons was transported on Oct. 30 to Vernon Johns by the school system’s Facilities Department.

Vernon Johns music teacher Deven Graves is delighted with the piano.
