LaMelo Ball, SPIRE to play Life Christian Academy at VSU
ETTRICK - Six-foot-six point guard and superstar talent LaMelo Ball and his SPIRE Institute teammates are rolling into Ettrick on Wednesday to take on the Life Christian Academy Eagles out of Chester at Virginia State University's Multipurpose Center. Tipoff time is slated for 7 p.m.
The younger brother of current Los Angeles Lakers NBA player Lonzo Ball, LaMelo has professional basketball experience, having played overseas for BC Prienai in Lithuania and in the United States for the Los Angeles Ballers of the Junior Basketball Association, the latter of which was founded by LaMelo's father LaVar Ball in December 2017 as an alternative to the NCAA.
LaMelo in November announced via Twitter he would be returning to high school to complete his senior year, and that he had “been accepted to attend Spire Prep Academy in Geneva, Ohio.” LaMelo on Saturday led his team to the Vermilion Basketball Tournament championship, dropping 28 points against hosting Vermilion High School, notching the triple-double with 12 rebounds and 10 assists and earning MVP tournament honors in the 102-75 title-clinching victory according to SPIRE Institute on Twitter.
Also for SPIRE, Rocket Watts double-doubled with 26 points and 10 assists, Myron Gardner double-doubled with 13 points and 11 rebounds and Isaiah Jackson double-doubled with 12 points and 12 rebounds while also getting eight blocks and five assists.
Before taking on SPIRE on Wednesday, Life Christian Academy is slated to play at Blue Ridge High School in St. George on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m.
