LaMelo Ball, SPIRE to play Life Chris­tian Academy at VSU

ET­TRICK - Six-foot-six point guard and su­per­star tal­ent LaMelo Ball and his SPIRE In­sti­tute team­mates are rolling into Et­trick on Wed­nes­day to take on the Life Chris­tian Academy Ea­gles out of Ch­ester at Vir­ginia State Univer­sity's Mul­tipur­pose Cen­ter. Tipoff time is slated for 7 p.m.

The younger brother of cur­rent Los An­ge­les Lak­ers NBA player Lonzo Ball, LaMelo has pro­fes­sional bas­ket­ball ex­pe­ri­ence, hav­ing played over­seas for BC Prienai in Lithua­nia and in the United States for the Los An­ge­les Ballers of the Ju­nior Bas­ket­ball As­so­ci­a­tion, the lat­ter of which was founded by LaMelo's fa­ther LaVar Ball in De­cem­ber 2017 as an al­ter­na­tive to the NCAA.

LaMelo in Novem­ber an­nounced via Twit­ter he would be re­turn­ing to high school to com­plete his se­nior year, and that he had “been ac­cepted to at­tend Spire Prep Academy in Geneva, Ohio.” LaMelo on Satur­day led his team to the Ver­mil­ion Bas­ket­ball Tour­na­ment cham­pi­onship, drop­ping 28 points against host­ing Ver­mil­ion High School, notch­ing the triple-dou­ble with 12 re­bounds and 10 as­sists and earn­ing MVP tour­na­ment hon­ors in the 102-75 ti­tle-clinch­ing vic­tory ac­cord­ing to SPIRE In­sti­tute on Twit­ter.

Also for SPIRE, Rocket Watts dou­ble-dou­bled with 26 points and 10 as­sists, My­ron Gard­ner dou­ble-dou­bled with 13 points and 11 re­bounds and Isa­iah Jack­son dou­ble-dou­bled with 12 points and 12 re­bounds while also get­ting eight blocks and five as­sists.

Be­fore tak­ing on SPIRE on Wed­nes­day, Life Chris­tian Academy is slated to play at Blue Ridge High School in St. Ge­orge on Tues­day, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m.
