VSU WBB over Claflin 52-39
ETTRICK - The Virginia State University women's basketball team secured a 52-39 victory over the Lady Panthers of Claflin University on Thursday evening at the VSU Multipurpose Center. Senior forward Chrisanna Green led the way, securing another double-double for the Trojans by collecting 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Claflin University (CU) opened the contest with a slight 4-0 lead to open the contest. Virginia State then answered with securing a 16-9 lead after one quarter and the Trojans tied with
the Lady Panthers in the second, 14-all, as Virginia State took a 30-23 lead into the half. Virginia State extended the margin to 34-31 after three periods and rolled to a 52-39 victory to earn its sixth win of the season.
Green scored 11 points in 40 minutes of play. The Jamestown, New York native was 5-of-9 from the line and finished with 14 rebounds, two assists and one block. Ebony Reynolds recorded 11 points, eight rebounds and two assists. They were followed by teammate Autumn
Hopson, who scored nine points.
Ashley Fields led Claflin in double figures scoring contributing 11 total points and four rebounds.
The Trojans will hit the road as they travel to Orangeburg, South Carolina to open 2018 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association play with a rematch against the Panthers of Claflin University on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
