States­men tame Lions 79-55

SOUTH PRINCE GE­ORGE - The Richard Bland Col­lege of Wil­liam & Mary Men's Bas­ket­ball team on Satur­day de­feated CCBC Dun­dalk 79-55 at States­man Gym.

With the vic­tory, the States­men im­proved to 3-6 on the sea­son and will next travel to na­tion­ally ranked #24 Cape Fear on Wed­nes­day, Dec. 5 for a 7 p.m. tipoff. CCBC Dun­dalk falls to 2-8 on the sea­son.

The States­men re­ceived their sec­ond win at home on Wed­nes­day, Nov. 28. The States­men only trailed be­hind the Lions once in the game when the Lions hit a

three-point shot putting them up 3-2 with 18:20 re­main­ing in the first half. The States­men quickly re­gained the lead with an as­sist by sopho­more Marvin Trotman to fresh­man Jor­dan Cross for a three-point shot with 18:00 re­main­ing.

The Lions con­tin­ued to fight through­out the first half, pres­sur­ing the States­men ball han­dlers to change the pace of the game. Richard Bland’s guards stayed calm and col­lected against the pres­sure and helped give their team a solid 22-point lead at half­time with a score of 47-25.

Richard Bland came out solid in the sec­ond half to keep a sig­nif­i­cant scor­ing mar­gin

through­out the rest of the game. The fi­nal score was 79-55. Cross led the States­men in scor­ing with 14 points. Sopho­more Ster­ling Car­ring­ton led in re­bounds with eight. Col­lec­tively, the States­men had 16 as­sists.

The team will re­turn home in State­men Hall next Satur­day, Dec. 8 when they face the Carolina Bas­ket­ball Academy.
