Mr. Larry Manley, 82, of Hopewell, VA, passed away on Fri­day, Jan­uary 4, 2019, at Hopewell Health Care Cen­ter, Hopewell, VA. He was born in Halifax, North Carolina, on Au­gust 13, 1936.

Larry was for­merly ed­u­cated in North Carolina Pub­lic School Sys­tem. He re­tired from Aqualon Plant for­merly Her­cules in Hopewell, Va. His hobby was as an Auto Me­chanic, yet his craft made him to be well known through­out the com­mu­nity. He was such a peo­ple per­son and well loved by many.

His civic obli­ga­tions in the com­mu­nity was: Shiloh Lodge#33, First Bap­tist Church City Point mem­ber over fifty plus years and a mem­ber of the church Male Cho­rus.

He was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents the late, John A Hughes, Lis­ten Manley and Jan­thia Mae Hughes; wife, Lu­cille A. Gup­ton Manley; son, Larry A. Manley; daugh­ter, Pauline Manley; grand­daugh­ter, KaSanya Manley; sis­ters, Irene Manley Collins and Annie Manley Jones.; brothers, Otis, Matthew, John Manley and Martin Richard­son.

He is sur­vived by: sons, Steve Manley (Jen­nifer) and Jesse Miles (Donna); daugh­ters, Rev. Ar­lene Manley-Har­ring­ton and Ebonee Har­ris; like a son, Michael John­son; brothers, Handy “Pete” Richard­son (Con­nie), Thomas Point (like a brother); sis­ters, Lau­ren Jean Wil­liams, Louise Manley Lloyd (Joseph), Bet­tie Manley, and Lola Manley Strick­land (Barry); brothers-in-law, Richard Collins, Barry Strick­land, Thur­man Gup­ton, Joseph Lloyd, Amos Al­ston, John “Bo” Young, and Howard Jones; sis­ters-in-law, Con­nie Richard­son, Catherine Gup­ton, Dorothy Al­ston, Irene Young, Josephine Jones, Shirley Hicks and Olivia Manley; un­cle, Wil­liam “Biddy” Quiv­ers; aunt, Clarice “Honey” Hughes; four­teen grand­chil­dren, Al­ton Jami­son, Shan­tita Manley, Kyra Ag­gi­son, Jonathan Har­ring­ton II, Sharaz Manley, Sharone Manley, Steve Manley, Shan­non Manley, Shan­i­tra “Nikki” Jones, Robert “Buddy” Allen, Danielle Miles, Ashly Miles, Shalinda Brown and LaToya Brown; twenty-one great-grand­chil­dren; host of de­voted nieces, neph­ews, best friend, Gon­za­las Graves, spe­cial love ones, Mary T. Brown, Ton­nette Manley, Jonathan Har­ring­ton, Sr., CoSan­dra Jones, Ster­ling wheat, Alvin and Alice Flow­ers, Avon Miles, Sr., James “Karo” and Aritha Baskerville, Mrs. Thelma Thomas and Fam­ily, Va­lerie W. Hud­son and Naz­er­ine Howard; and other rel­a­tives.

Cel­e­bra­tion of Life ser­vice will be held at 1:00 Fri­day, Jan­uary 11, 2019, at First Bap­tist Church of City Point, 1117 Pierce St., Hopewell, Vir­ginia; pas­tor, Rev. Ru­dolph Ran­dall. In­ter­ment will fol­low at the church ceme­tery.
