Mr. Larry Manley, 82, of Hopewell, VA, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2019, at Hopewell Health Care Center, Hopewell, VA. He was born in Halifax, North Carolina, on August 13, 1936.
Larry was formerly educated in North Carolina Public School System. He retired from Aqualon Plant formerly Hercules in Hopewell, Va. His hobby was as an Auto Mechanic, yet his craft made him to be well known throughout the community. He was such a people person and well loved by many.
His civic obligations in the community was: Shiloh Lodge#33, First Baptist Church City Point member over fifty plus years and a member of the church Male Chorus.
He was preceded in death by his parents the late, John A Hughes, Listen Manley and Janthia Mae Hughes; wife, Lucille A. Gupton Manley; son, Larry A. Manley; daughter, Pauline Manley; granddaughter, KaSanya Manley; sisters, Irene Manley Collins and Annie Manley Jones.; brothers, Otis, Matthew, John Manley and Martin Richardson.
He is survived by: sons, Steve Manley (Jennifer) and Jesse Miles (Donna); daughters, Rev. Arlene Manley-Harrington and Ebonee Harris; like a son, Michael Johnson; brothers, Handy “Pete” Richardson (Connie), Thomas Point (like a brother); sisters, Lauren Jean Williams, Louise Manley Lloyd (Joseph), Bettie Manley, and Lola Manley Strickland (Barry); brothers-in-law, Richard Collins, Barry Strickland, Thurman Gupton, Joseph Lloyd, Amos Alston, John “Bo” Young, and Howard Jones; sisters-in-law, Connie Richardson, Catherine Gupton, Dorothy Alston, Irene Young, Josephine Jones, Shirley Hicks and Olivia Manley; uncle, William “Biddy” Quivers; aunt, Clarice “Honey” Hughes; fourteen grandchildren, Alton Jamison, Shantita Manley, Kyra Aggison, Jonathan Harrington II, Sharaz Manley, Sharone Manley, Steve Manley, Shannon Manley, Shanitra “Nikki” Jones, Robert “Buddy” Allen, Danielle Miles, Ashly Miles, Shalinda Brown and LaToya Brown; twenty-one great-grandchildren; host of devoted nieces, nephews, best friend, Gonzalas Graves, special love ones, Mary T. Brown, Tonnette Manley, Jonathan Harrington, Sr., CoSandra Jones, Sterling wheat, Alvin and Alice Flowers, Avon Miles, Sr., James “Karo” and Aritha Baskerville, Mrs. Thelma Thomas and Family, Valerie W. Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 Friday, January 11, 2019, at First Baptist Church of City Point, 1117 Pierce St., Hopewell, Virginia; pastor, Rev. Rudolph Randall. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
