Mr. Arthur Allen, 66, of 1285 S. Sycamore St., Peters­burg, Va., passed away on Satur­day, Jan­uary 5, 2019. He was born June 2, 1952.

He was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents, Rosa and Zol­lie Allen.

Left to cher­ish his mem­o­ries: two sis­ters, Via Branch (James) of S. Ch­ester­field and Shirley Gor­don of N. Din­wid­die; two brothers, Zol­lie Allen (Pat) of New Jersey and Jessie McNair of Bal­ti­more; his aunts and un­cles; and a host of nieces, neph­ews, great nieces and great neph­ews, other rel­a­tives and friends.

JOYCE B. ATKINS

Joyce B. Atkins, 73, of Colo­nial Heights, passed away Wed­nes­day, Jan­uary 9, 2019. She was born to the late Lin­wood and Dorothy Brock­well on July 1, 1945.

She is sur­vived by her chil­dren, Bar­ton Atkins, and Angie Car­pen­ter; grand­son, Tr­ever Weeks; brothers, Earl Brock­well (An­nette), and Wayne Brock­well (Pam); nu­mer­ous nieces and neph­ews; and long­time com­pan­ion, Billy Shortt.

CLARENCE E. CLE­MENTS

Clarence E. “Cut­ter” Cle­ments passed away peace­fully at his home on the morn­ing of Jan­uary 9, 2019. Cut­ter was born in Waverly, VA, on March 25, 1931. He was the son the late M.T. and Eva Cle­ments.

He en­joyed fish­ing, hunt­ing, rides to the moun­tains, and wood­work­ing. Cut­ter was proud of his ser­vice as a Para­trooper in the Korean War with the 187th Air­borne Reg­i­men, and was a long­time friend of the vet­er­ans hav­ing ded­i­cated over 10,000 hours of vol­un­teer­ing with the VFW Post 2239 at the McGuire Vet­er­ans Ad­min­is­tra­tion Med­i­cal Cen­ter. He is known and loved by many through­out Prince Ge­orge County and the sur­round­ing ar­eas, for his many years as a builder.

In ad­di­tion to his par­ents, he was pre­de­ceased by his wife of 50 years, Martha Daniel Cle­ments and his spe­cial friend and long­time com­pan­ion, Joyce Em­mons.

Cut­ter is sur­vived by nu­mer­ous nieces and neph­ews in­clud­ing great nephew Mickey Cle­ments and his son Chase of Prince Ge­orge, VA, and his adopted in heart daugh­ter and grand­daugh­ter, Carolyn and Al­lie Cullen of Prince Ge­orge, VA.

A grave­side ser­vice with Mil­i­tary Honors will be held at 11:00 am, Satur­day, Jan­uary 12, 2019, at South­lawn Me­mo­rial Park, 1911 Bird­song Rd. Peters­burg, VA 23805. Mr. Corey Lynn Dew, 44, of Wil­son, NC, died Sun­day, De­cem­ber 2, 2018.

NORMA C. HAL­LOWAY

Norma C. Hal­loway, 79, of Colo­nial Heights passed away on Tues­day, Jan­uary 8, 2019. She was a long­time mem­ber of Mount Pleas­ant Bap­tist Church and re­tired from the De­fense Sup­ply Cen­ter of Rich­mond after 33 years of ser­vice. She was pre­de­ceased by her par­ents, Robert and Ruby Ed­wards; lov­ing hus­band, Paul Elden Hal­loway, Sr.; and daugh­ter, Karen Hal­loway; and is sur­vived by her sons, Chip Hal­loway and wife, Tammy, Gary Hal­loway and wife, Deb­bie; grand­chil­dren, Ash­ley Layne and hus­band, Tyler, Aaron, Emily and Ja­cob Hal­loway; brother, Buddy Ed­wards and wife, Brenda; sis­ter, Edythe McKin­ney and hus­band, Garry; other ex­tended fam­ily mem­bers and all those who knew her as “Ma­mar”.

A fu­neral ser­vice will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Satur­day, Jan­uary 12, 2019, at Mount Pleas­ant Bap­tist Church, 3110 Green­wood Av­enue, Colo­nial Heights, VA 23834. Mr. Bruce L. Jones, Jr., af­fec­tion­ately known as “BJ,” died sud­denly on Mon­day, Jan­uary 7, 2019, at South­side Re­gional Med­i­cal Cen­ter, Peters­burg, VA. BJ was pre­ceded in death by his ma­ter­nal grand­par­ents, Sa­muel and Nan­nie Sharpe; and pa­ter­nal un­cle, Franklin Lee Crock­ett.

BJ was born on Au­gust 26, 1985, in Peters­burg, VA. He at­tended Din­wid­die County and Roanoke City Pub­lic Schools.

BJ leaves to cher­ish his mem­o­ries to his only daugh­ter, Makaela Jones-Terry of North Carolina; de­voted and lov­ing mother, Melissa L. Jones of Din­wid­die, VA; and fa­ther, Bruce L. Jones, Sr. (Rhonda P.) of Peters­burg, VA; pa­ter­nal grand­par­ents, Mary R. Ben­nett of Peters­burg, VA, and Ge­orge E. Jones of Din­wid­die, VA; lov­ing and de­voted brother whom he resided, Darek T. WIL­LIAM G. JOHN­STON

Wil­liam Green John­ston Jr., 70, of Dis­putanta de­parted this life on Jan­uary 8, 2019. He was pre­ceded in death by his fa­ther, Wil­liam G. John­ston, Sr.; mother, Ma­bel McGraw John­ston; sis­ter, Joann Delores John­ston; and brother, Jesse New­ton John­ston.

Wil­liam served as a First Sergeant at Fort Lee, Vir­ginia in the United States Army and after re­tir­ing from the mil­i­tary, worked at Crater Cor­rec­tional Cen­ter.

View­ing and visi­ta­tion will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Fri­day, Jan­uary 11th, at the Peters­burg Chapel of J.T. Mor­riss & Son Fu­neral Home. LEON JONES

Leon Jones, 73, died Jan­uary 8, 2019, at South­side Re­gional Med­i­cal Cen­ter. He was the son of the late James and Car­rie Jones. He was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents and his brother, Charles Jones.

Leon en­joyed cook­ing, at­tend­ing train shows, fish­ing and play­ing his gui­tar. In his early years he joined the Mount Level Bap­tist Church and later joined the Bethesda Church of Christ, where he at­tended faith­fully un­til is health be­gan to fail.

Leon leaves to cher­ish his mem­o­ries a brother, Con­nie Jones (Laura) of Dewitt, VA; two sis­ters Doris Hall of Peters­burg, VA, and Mary Dab­ney (Charles) of Din­wid­die, VA; sev­eral nieces, neph­ews, cousins, friends, and one spe­cial friend Ms. Ruth Jones.

A cel­e­bra­tion of life ser­vice will be held 12 noon Mon­day, Jan­uary 14, 2019, at the Peters­burg Chapel Joseph M. John­son & Son Fu­neral Home, 530 S. RACHEL N. JONES

Rachel N. Jones, 59, of 21408 Hamp­ton Av­enue, South Ch­ester­field, VA, passed away on Fri­day, Jan­uary 4, 2018, at South­side Re­gional Med­i­cal Cen­ter, Peters­burg, VA. She was born in Sus­sex County, VA, on Novem­ber 4, 1959, to the late Sam Jones and Lu­cille Massen­burg-Jones.

Rachel was a grad­u­ate of Din­wid­die Se­nior High School and at­tended Vir­ginia State Uni­ver­sity. She was a Cus­tomer Ser­vice As­so­ciate Spe­cial­ist at Gen­eral Dy­nam­ics. Her hob­bies in­cluded: col­lect­ing ar­ti­fact dolls and crys­tal, play­ing slots at the lo­cal casi­nos, car­ing for her dog, Gin­ger and hang­ing out with her best friend, Cather­ine Valen­tine Gin­ger.

Rachel leaves to cher­ish her fond mem­o­ries: two sis­ters, Phenories Massen­burg, Lor­ton, VA, and Va­lerie Massen­burg, South Ch­ester­field, VA; four brothers, Clin­ton Massen­burg, An­nan­dale, VA, Ivey and Kirby Jones, Lor­ton, VA, and An­dre Jones (Sharon) of Peters­burg, VA; one aunt and one un­cle; one niece and five neph­ews, two de­voted, Ni­co­las and Nathan Brad­ford III; a host of cousins and friends.

Jayne Wool­ridge Loesch, 61, of Kitty Hawk, NC, for­merly of Hopewell, VA, passed away De­cem­ber 23, 2018. Born in Hopewell, Jayne is pre­ceded in death by her par­ents, Harold H. Wool­ridge, Jr. and Louise Bishop Wool­ridge; and son, Adam Ta­tum.

Jayne is sur­vived by her hus­band, Lawrence F. Loesch; brother, Harold H. Wool­ridge; sis­ter, Nancy W. Moore; twin sis­ter, Jan Wool­ridge; sis­ter-in­law, Mar­garet A. Loesch; nu­mer­ous nieces, neph­ews, cousins, aunts, and lov­ing friends.

Jayne had the hap­pi­est out­look on life, a smile that warmed hearts, and an in­fec­tious laugh. Jayne loved to fish and was a proud mem­ber of the all-fe­male fish­ing team, FISH TALES. Her 30+ year ca­reer in the restau­rant in­dus­try gave her the op­por­tu­nity to meet many won­der­ful peo­ple who be­came life­long friends.

There will be a Cel­e­bra­tion of Jayne's Life on Sun­day, Jan­uary 27, 2019, from 3pm 6pm in Kitty Hawk at the Black Pel­i­can Restau­rant, cor­ner of Kitty Hawk Road and the Beach Road. ERNES­TINE B. MCEACHIN

Mrs. Ernes­tine Brown McEachin of 15501 Sil­vertree Lane, South Ch­ester­field, VA, was called home by the Lord on Tues­day, Jan­uary 1, 2019, at John Ran­dolph Med­i­cal Cen­ter.

“Tine or Ms. E” as her fam­ily and clos­est friends af­fec­tion­ately called her, was born on Oc­to­ber 2, 1954, to the late Dea­con James H. Brown and Gaynell Jack­son Brown. She was also pre­ceded in death by her step­mother, Marie H. Brown; great aunt, Josephine O. Brown; sis­ter-in-law, Emma Mae McEachin; and brother-in-law, James McEachin, Jr.

She is a grad­u­ate of Prince Ge­orge County Pub­lic School and ded­i­cated her life to tak­ing care of her fam­ily, work­ing hard and help­ing oth­ers. In her spare time, she en­joyed spend­ing time with her “grands.”

She leaves to cher­ish her mem­ory: hus­band Shade McEachin Jr.; three chil­dren, Monique Jack­son and Daisha McEachin, both of South Ch­ester­field, VA, and Shatae McEachin (RaShanda) of Rich­mond, VA; six grand­chil­dren, La­tia, Ken­dal, Kavari, RaNiya, Dayvon and Daviona; two brothers, James H. “Juny” Brown, Jr. (Mary) of Vir­ginia Beach, VA, and Wal­ter Brown (Judy) of Ok­la­homa City, OK; two sis­ters, Mary I. Har­ri­son (Or­lan­der) of Stafford, VA, and Bet­tye A. Wilk­er­son (John) of South Ch­ester­field, VA; one brother-in­law, Robert McEachin (Sylvia) of Rich­mond, VA; two sis­ters-in-law, Can­dres McEachin and San­dra McEachin, all of Rich­mond, VA; and two god-grand­chil­dren, Nathan and Kaleb. She also leaves a host of aunts, un­cles, nieces, neph­ews, cousins, other rel­a­tives and many close friends.

MIL­DRED T. PLEAS­ANT

Mil­dred (Mil­lie) Treaster Pleas­ant, 89, of Hopewell, went to be with the Lord on Sun­day, Jan­uary 6, 2019, after a brief ill­ness. Mil­lie was born on April 8, 1929, in Dis­putanta, Vir­ginia. On Sep­tem­ber 12, 1947, she was united in mar­riage to Thomas Sa­muel Pleas­ant, Jr. No mat­ter whether she was called Mom, Nan­nie, or sim­ply Mil­lie she loved, lis­tened, and laughed with all. She worked in the Hopewell Pub­lic School Sys­tem for 20 years and was an ac­tive mem­ber and vol­un­teer of Wes­ley United Methodist Church.

She was pre­ceded in death by her par­ents, John and Re­becca Treaster; her lov­ing hus­band, (Ju­nior) Tom Pleas­ant; daugh­ter, Becky Yer­att; son, Tommy; daugh­terin-law, Brenda Houff Pleas­ant; and son-in­law, Rick Grif­fith; eight sis­ters, Mary Mcclure, Dorothy Huf­nal, El­iz­a­beth Rod­key, Ada Pear­son, Ge­or­gia Krick, Sarah Sim­mons, Gla­dys Brow­der, Char­lotte Dud­ley; and four brothers, James, Buddy, Bobby and Clair Treaster.

Mil­lie is sur­vived by her daugh­ter, Cathy Grif­fith; son-in-law, Percy Yer­att; grand­chil­dren, Pamela Sue Witt (Skip), Chris­tian Grif­fith (Stephanie), Nathaniel Grif­fith (Meghan), Chad Pleas­ant (Lind­sey); great grand­chil­dren, Ja­cob, Rea­gan, Lin­coln, Pa­trick, An­drew; and a close fam­ily friend, Jan­ice Baum. Also her sis­ter-in-law, Frances Treaster and spe­cial niece, He­len Mitchell in ad­di­tion to nieces, neph­ews and friends.

Visi­ta­tion will be on Thurs­day, Jan­uary 10, 2019, from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Me­mo­rial Fu­neral Home, Hopewell, and a Cel­e­bra­tion of her life will be Fri­day, Jan­uary 11, 2019, at 11 a.m., Wes­ley United Methodist Church, Hopewell. LAWRENCE SCOTT

Mr. Lawrence Scott of Peters­burg, tran­si­tioned from this life at home sur­rounded by fam­ily. He was a na­tive of Sus­sex County, later re­lo­cat­ing to Peters­burg. Lee was the son of the late Leroy and Gla­dys Scott. He was pre­ceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Mary L. Scott; his sis­ter, Cora L. Walker; brothers, James, Ju­nious, Her­man, and Marshall (Ed­low); niece, Au­drey Scott.

Lee was a mem­ber of the Lit­tle Mount Bap­tist Church, where he served as Trustee un­til his health de­clined. He was also a mem­ber of Ma­sonic Euerka #15 and St. Johns Young Men’s Bingo As­so­ci­a­tion. He loved bingo and his CB “Cof­feemaker.” Lee was em­ployed at Whe­lan Exxon for years.

Lee is sur­vived by one son, Lawrence; sis­ter, Mal­en­dia Lawrence of Wash­ing­ton, DC; sis­terin-law, Delores Scott; a host of nieces and neph­ews, two were his care­givers Joyce Dab­ney and San­drea Scott; many friends among them one de­voted Ms. El­iza Shine.

A cel­e­bra­tion of life will be held 11 am Satur­day, Jan­uary 12, 2019, at Lit­tle Mount Bap­tist Church, 8012 Jerusalem Plank Road, Dis­putanta, VA. Rev. Charles Davis, of­fi­ci­at­ing. Burial will fol­low in the church ceme­tery.
