Judy’s Kindness Kitchen, a Sundaymorn­ing soup kitchen in Providence run entirely by volunteers, needs help each week. The kitchen utilizes a team of 10 to 15 volunteers to prepare 500 sandwiches and snacks that are then distribute­d to individual­s at Crossroads Rhode Island and Emmanuel House. The food is prepared at the Jewish Community Center at 401 Elmgrove Ave. in Providence, from 8 to 9:45 a.m. To sign up to volunteer, visit judyskindn­esskitchen.org.

Newport Tree Conservanc­y seeks volunteers for its fifth annual tree reforestat­ion event in Newport on Friday, Oct. 27, and Saturday, Oct. 28. The event will take place in Miantonomi Park from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. each day as the organizati­on plans to plant 100 native trees to provide shade for people and habitat for birds and wildlife. It will be held rain or shine and is a family-friendly opportunit­y. Youths under 18 must be accompanie­d by an adult. The Newport Tree Conservanc­y will provide snacks and T-shirts. The Office of the Rhode Island State

Ombudsman, housed within the Alliance for Better Long-Term Care, is looking for volunteers age 18+ to become certified volunteer ombudsmen. This volunteer role advocates for residents living in nursing homes and assisted-living facilities and those receiving licensed hospice or home-care services. Certified volunteer ombudsmen educate and mediate to help resolve issues brought to their attention by residents in facilities. Training is provided, and a BCI check is required.
