VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Meals on Wheels needs volunteers throughout Rhode Island to deliver meals to homebound residents and provide a brief social visit. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Volunteers set their own scheduled based on their availability and must be 18 or older. Visit rimeals.org and click “VOLUNTEER,” or call Wetherley Hundley at (401) 3516700, ext. 1124.
Ronald McDonald Charities of New England is looking for volunteers to help at its Providence site on weekends. Volunteers assist with general housekeeping, checking families into their rooms, organizing donations, greeting visitors and answering phones. There is also a need for weekday evening volunteers (5 to 9 p.m.). This is a great opportunity for those who wish to support families in need. Training is provided, and volunteers are asked to make a one-year commitment. For more, contact Joanna Powers at jpowers@rmhcne.org, or call (401) 274-4447.
Village Common of Rhode Island, a volunteer-driven organization that helps older adults who wish to age in their home, seeks volunteers. Its Barrington Village needs drivers to provide shortdistance rides for seniors; volunteers must have their own car and insurance. To help, contact Barrington@villagecommonri.org or call (401) 400-5599. In Westerly, the organization needs a volunteer to help serve as its “go to” person for policies and operations and to work with other community-based organizations, and a “Member Ambassador” to meet with people interested in becoming a member. The organization can also use general office volunteers to respond to emails and member inquiries. To help in Westerly, contact the main Village office at (401) 228-8683, or email westerly-volunteer@villagecommonri.org.
