Chucks varsity football welcomes longtime rival DuBois to town this week

PUNXSUTAWNEY — For the second time this season, the Punxsutawney Chucks football team last week jumped out to a 14-7 lead over the Moniteau Warriors but was unable to hold the lead, as Moniteau scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to seal the victory at 28-14.

The Chucks’ offense was once again led by quarterback Kameron Falgout. Falgout rushed for a seasonhigh 147 yards on 14 carries, averaging more than 10 yards per carry. He threw for 54 more, placing his total at 201 yards of total offense. "Kameron has been the go-to guy all year," said Head Coach Alan Nichol. "Coming in, we hoped to build off his skills, but with a condensed pre-season, and with his experience, he has carried even more of the load."

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound senior leads the team in rushing and passing with 434 yards and 351 yards, respectively, giving him 790 total yards of offense. He is averaging 112.8 yards per game. "Other teams know he is the guy to stop, but his skill set makes him hard to defend." added Nichol.

Zeke Bennett added 42 yards rushing, including a nifty 8-yard run down by the goalline to set up Punxsy's second touchdown.

On defense, Joshua Miller led the team with nine tackles followed by Landon Peterson with eight. "Landon did a great job; he set the edge all night and came up with some really big tackles." said Nichol. "Josh Miller leads the team in tackles, and he got stronger as the game wore on."

This week, the Chucks (0-7) will be playing their last home game of the year, as their longtime rival, the DuBois Beavers, come to town. When the two teams met earlier this year, DuBois won 24-0.

The Beavers are 3-4 and look to even their record. According to Nichol, it is "a typical DuBois team" that has very good size and a lot of depth.”

"They have been an outstanding defensive squad, and they like to line up and try to run over you when they have the ball, but with the arm strength of their quarterback, you must prepare for their passing attack as well," he said.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Friday night at Jack LaMarca Stadium.
