CLEARFIELD — The Punxsy girls basketball team took its show on the road for the first time in nearly two weeks on Tuesday, but showed no signs of road rust as the Lady Chucks scored a big win, 54-24.

With the win, Punxsy remained perfect, improving to 14-0 on the season, and senior guard Sarah Weaver scored 17 points to creep closer to the 1,000-point milestone, as she now has 979.

Weaver and Chloe Presloid each finished with a double-double, as Weaver had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Presloid scored 14 and grabbed 12 boards. Weaver also had a team-high seven steals.

Riley Presloid added nine points, five assists and five steals, and Kierstin Riley had six points and nine rebounds. Katelyn Griebel had four points, and Danielle Griebel and Riley Doverspike each had two points.

Punxsy got out to a bit of a slow start offensively but still managed to win the first quarter by a 9-4 margin, then really turned it on in the second quarter by scoring 20 to take a 29-13 lead into the big break.

The Lady Chucks added nine more points to the lead in the third quarter, scoring 16, and then matched the first-quarter score down the stretch to add five more and set the 54-24 final score.

“Their zone slowed us down a bit, and we missed a lot of open shots early, but we found a way to limit them defensively and scored enough to win,” Punxsy coach Mike Carlson said.

Punxsy will play next on Friday at home, as the Lady Chucks host Moniteau.

“They have a pretty good team, and it’s another AAA team that we could see in the playoffs so it’ll be good to face them,” Carlson said.

• Junior varsity: The perfection continued for the JV squad as well, with the Lady Chucks improving to 13-0 by holding Clerfield to single digits in each quarter and pulling away for a 43-25 victory.

Danielle Griebel and Maeve Hanley each finished with nine points to lead the way for Punxsy, with Doverspike adding eight and Olivia Burkett six. Emily Dobbins had five points, with Amy Poole scoring four and Emily McMahan two.
