• 9th-grade boys basketball: The Punxsy 9th-grade boys team brought its season to a close with a hard-fought home win over Clearfield on Wednesday to finish the season above the .500 mark at 7-6.

Punxsy trailed by one after the first quarter but won the second by a five-point margin to take a 27-23 lead into the break. The Bison battled back, but Punxsy outpaced them 21-20 in the second half to earn the 48-43 win.

Mason Nesbitt paced Punxsy’s offense with 14 points, with Zach Presloid adding eight and Jimmie Neese and Cooper Hallman scoring seven apiece. Nick Wisnesky had six, and Luke Miller rounded out the scoring with one.

• 8th-grade boys basketball: In the 8th-grade contest between the same two teams, Punxsy fired out of the gates and scored 17 in the first quarter to open up a lead, but the Bison battled back to even the score at 24s at halftime. The Chucks went on to outdo their guests by seven in the final two frames, though, for a 50-43 win.

Noah Kengersky and Brody Stouffer led the way for the Chucks’ scorers with 13 and 10, respective­ly, and Porter Wood added seven. Griffin White finished with five, followed by Landon Neal and Jack Rentko with four apiece, Coy Martino with three and Wyatt Davis and AJ States with two each.

Punxsy (7-5) will be back in action on Friday, playing host to DuBois Central Catholic.

• 7th-grade boys basketball: In the 7th-grade game, the Chucks pulled away early, winning the first-quarter battle by 14 points and never looking back on their way to a 43-33 victory over the visiting Bison.

Maddox Hetrick was the top scorer for Punxsy with 11 points, and Landan Temchulla added seven, with Parker Stahlman and Beau Thomas scoring six each. Adam Manners contribute­d four points, with Adin Bish and Lucas Mennitti rounding out the scoring with two each.

Punxsy (7-4) will also return to action Friday by playing host to DuBois Central Catholic.
