Abby E. Curry, 62
Abby E. Curry, 62, of Sprankle Mills, died Monday, April 19, 2021, at UMPC Altoona.
She was born Nov. 26, 1958, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of Elaine (Smathers) and Lorrain H. Raybuck, who both survive.
On Oct. 15, 1977, she married John R. Curry, who survives.
Abby was a 1976 graduate of the Punxsutawney Area High School. She was a member of the St. John’s Reformed Church of Punxsutawney, where she helped out with their Bible school program.
Abby loved the Dominican Republic, where she and her daughter would help the children with their medical needs. She also loved being able to raise babies and was a caretaker for many children in the Punxsutawney area for over 30 years. Abby also enjoyed trips to the beach, purses, cooking, going for rides in the Mustang and her VW Beetle and spending time with her family and the Lord.
She was involved in Child Evangelism Fellowship in Punxsutawney, where she taught and volunteered. She also served on the Red Cross and taught CPR. Abby formerly worked as a paramedic, at Jamesway in Punxsutawney and also as a caretaker for the elderly.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by three children, son Matthew Curry and wife Kathy of Punxsutawney, son Adam Curry and wife Hallie Truitt of Dora and daughter Elana Curry and fiancé Brandin McFadden of Punxsutawney; two grandchildren, Ethan Curry and Elliot Curry; and two brothers, Kevin Raybuck and wife Dorie of Lexington, Kentucky, and Mark Raybuck and wife Susan of Punxsutawney.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 23, 2021, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.
A private funeral service will be held for the family.
Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Punxsutawney.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made directly to the family for funeral and medical expenses. A portion of the contributions given will be donated to the Dominican Republic via a personal family contract to provide food and flip flops to children in Abby’s honor.
