A.J. Parise Varsity Football falls to Brockway 26-0 at home.

PUNXSUAWNE­Y— The A. J. Parise Varsity Football squad was handed a 26-0 loss to the Brockway Bears, to open their 2021 season. The game was played Saturday evening at Jack LaMarca Stadium in Punxsy.

Punxsy's Eddie Chiplis returned the opening kickoff 8 yards to set up the home team’s first drive of the season at their 40 yard line.

On second down, Kolby Reitz wiggled through the left side of the line and broke loose for a 32-yard run to advance the ball to the Brockway 28. His next carry went for a 4-yard gain. The Bears defense settled and were able get a turnover on downs.

Brockway got runs of six, three and eight from Colin Weir-Khamis to start things off, as the Bears continued to run the ball. Khamis picked up a first down on another 8-yard run to the 41. Elysabeth Meyers ran for a 7-yard gain from the 10 to get visitors close to the goal line.

Punxsy's Gavin Neal tackled for a 2-yard loss on the next play set up a third and goal situation from the 5.

Khamis finished off the drive by running it in; the kick failed, setting the score at 6-0.

That drive ended the first quarter. Punxsy started the second stanza at their 25 yard line. A four and out gave the Bears the ball at the 26. A holding penalty nullified an 11-yard run by Nolan Konyndyk on first down. Gage Meredith ran for 6 yards on two carries to set up a third and 7 from the 28.

Khamis found pay dirt on the next snap, and after the conversion kick was good, Brockway led the game 14-0. Khamis continued to show his skill as he ran back the second half kickoff 71 yards.

Luke Martino split the uprights again with the conversion kick, extending the visitors lead to 22-0. Punxsy got runs of 7 and 6 from Phoenix Johnston to start their next drive.

After getting the ball over midfield, the Punxsy drive stalled. From there, both teams exchanged possession­s throughout the second half.

Brockway got safeties against the Chucks in the third and fourth quarters to set the final score at 26-0.

Johnston gained 37 yards to lead the Chucks offense; Reitz finished with 30.

Neal paced the Punxsy defense with eight tackles; Johnston followed with seven.

Bobbie Hack, four tackles, was next; Jaydan Campbell, Jaden Greenblatt, Tyler Manzo and Kolby Reitz added three each. Zach States and Brady Moore contribute­d two apiece.

The Varsity Chucks (0-1) travel to Johnsonbur­g for a game against the Shamrocks (1-0) on Saturday.
