Walter L. “Beanie” Snyder, 96, of Northern Cambria, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2022, at Riverside Manor in Punxsutawn­ey with his daughters by his side.

He was born Nov. 21, 1925, to the late Thomas George and Dessa Pearl (Lee) Snyder in Mahaffey.

Beanie was a veteran of WWII, serving with the United States Army. He married Mary Frances Pennington on Valentine’s Day, 1948, in Mahaffey. Together, they shared 52 years of marriage before her passing on Feb. 18, 2000.

He worked for Buterbaugh Land and Timber for over 60 years before his retirement.

Beanie was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, and he always kept busy and stayed in shape after his retirement. He enjoyed the outdoors in every aspect. He was an avid hunter and loved riding his four-wheeler, taking rides on his snowmobile and spending time with his family

He is survived by two daughters, Bonnie J. Bennett and husband William, Punxsutawn­ey, and Kathleen M. Lingenfelt­er and Robert Panick, Cherry Tree, six grandchild­ren, Lisa, Tracy, Matthew, Karena, Dustin and Elizabeth; 11 great-grandchild­ren, Lacy, Derek, Olivia, Katerina, Isaac, Dylan, Westley, Christophe­r, Alayna, Patrick and Alexander; 10 great-great-grandchild­ren, Jayce, Phoenix, Mylah, Laykelin, Emma, Ezra, Tegan, Lexi, Cole and Eliza; a sister, Alice Clawson, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a great-grandson, Lucas Brothers; and eight siblings.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

He will be laid to rest beside his wife, Mary, at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
