Chucks track/field win 82-68 over Indiana on Senior Night
PUNXSUTAWNEY – The Punxsutawney Chucks track and field team played host to visiting Indiana on Tuesday afternoon, and by the end of the meet, the Chucks had won 82-68 on Senior Night.
Senior Tyler Elliott took first in the 110- meter hurdles ( 16.15) and first in the 300- meter hurdles ( 42.28). “Tyler continued his remarkable career by winning both hurdle events by a wide margin, and we are surely going to miss his steady presence next year,” said Punxsy boys coach Jason Grusky.
In the pole vault, senior Jaden Schidlmeier took fifth with a mark of 12-00. “Jaden tied his personal best with a 12- 00 jump,” said Grusky, “Indiana had two outstanding vaulters, otherwise Jaden's 12-00 would have scored points.”
Senior Kyle Nesbitt placed third in the high jump (5-02), fifth in the triple jump ( 33- 04) and eighth in the long jump (16-02.50), all of which were new personal-best marks. “Kyle has had a solid season, and we expect that will continue down the stretch,” said Grusky. “He will be representing the Chucks this Friday at Altoona in the high jump.”
In the shot put, senior Hunter Harris took fourth with a throw of 34-08 for a new personal best by one foot, and just missed finishing in the top three. Harris also had a throw of 90-07 in the discus.
“Hunter is a great team guy, and he brings his enthusiasm and leadership to work every day,” said Grusky.
Grant Miller took third in the pole vault with a mark of 13-06 for a new personal best. “He beat his previous personal best of 13- 2 that he set last Friday at the Mars Invitational,” said Grusky. “And he is really dialed in right now.”
In the discus, Matthew Grusky took first with a throw of 125- 00 for a new personal best by close to eight feet.
The Chucks will be back in action on Friday, as 16 athletes will be taking part in the Mountain Lion Invitational on Friday in Altoona. Then, the team will have their last regular-season meet next Tuesday on the road in Bradford.
