PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Lady Chucks softball team has done some rebounding recently, as last week they were 4-6, but as the season reaches past the halfway mark, the girls find themselves at 7-6.

On Saturday, the Lady Chucks had a doubleheader against visiting Williamsport, who the home team went on to beat 10-0 and 13-12.

Then on Monday evening, Punxsy hosted the Brookville Lady Raiders, who the Lady Chucks bested 9-1.

During the 10-0 game against Williamsport, the Lady Chucks were lead by Avary Powell and Karli Young, who both went 4- for- 5 with three RBIs apiece. Ciara Toven was 2- for- 5 with three RBIs, while Brynn Hergert went 1- for- 3 with two RBIs. Also, Laci Poole was 3-for-5 with an RBI, and Emily Dobbins went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Also, Brooke Young was 3-for-5, and on the mound, Toven had two strikeouts.

In the second game, Punxsy had narrowly edged Williamsport at 13-12, as both teams had 15 hits and four errors apiece.

Williamsports scored seven runs to Punxsy’s three, but in the second through fourth innings, the Lady Chucks put in seven more runs. In the seventh, after Williamsport added in three more runs, Punxsy outscored the visitors 3-2 to secure the win.

Young was 2- for- 4 with two RBIs. Toven went 4- for- 4 with two RBIs, Hergert was 1-for-4 with an RBI and Sydney Hoffman was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Brooke Skarbek went 3- for- 4, while Dobbins was 4-for-4. Also, Brooke Young had one hit and Toven had four strikeouts on the mound.

“The girls really brought out their bats on Saturday,” said Punxsy coach Brad Constantino. “We hit four home runs and Toven throw a gem in the first game.”

He added, “We hit the ball really, really well, and Toven ( two home runs), Powell and Hoffman hit home runs.”

On Monday, the Lady Chucks came alive in the middle of the game against the Lady Raiders, with two runs scored in the third inning, five in the fifth and two scored in the sixth.

Toven was 4- for- 4 with an RBI, and Dobbins went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Powell went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, while Brooke Young and Karli Young had one RBI apiece. Also, Kaylee Guidice went 1-for-4, and Skarbek was 2-for-3.

With the season just moving past the middle mark, these explosive wins are huge for a young Lady Chucks team.

“It was huge for the girls, and I’m glad to see all the hard work paying off,” said Constantino. “The girls are very motivated and they’re excited, and it’s a big kickoff for the second half of the season.”
