Nancy Ruth Yount Yates, 88, passed away May 4, 2022, at the McKinley Health Center in Brookville, following a period of declining health.

Nancy was born Aug. 1, 1933, in Hazen, the youngest child of Charles Marvin Yount and Jeanette Ruth (Dinger) Yount. A proud graduate of Punxsutawn­ey High School, she remained an active alum of the Class of 1951, coordinati­ng reunions and monthly class luncheons.

She married Kenneth Darrell Yates on Jan. 12, 1955. After 52 years of marriage, Ken preceded her in death in 2007. She was lucky to find love again later in life and was engaged to be married to Melvin Mitchell when he died suddenly in 2013.

Adapting to the snowbird life, Nancy spent three winters in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and six in Huntsville, Alabama. Nancy enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking. She was a longtime volunteer for the WRC in Brookville.

Nancy had a special fondness for children and animals. She was a devout Christian and attended the Liberty Street Church of God in Clarion for many years.

In addition to her husband and parents, Nancy was preceded in death by a son, K. Douglas Yates; an infant granddaugh­ter, Marin Ruth Yates; and all her siblings, brothers Dale Yount, Howard (Anne) Yount, Marlin (Rachel) Yount, Rodger (Helen) Yount and C. Dick Yount, and sister Elsie (Herb) Brands.

Left to cherish her memory are daughters Kathy Yates Zentner (Christina Harrison) of Huntsville, Alabama, Karla Yates Dillon (Scott) of Rochester, New Hampshire, and son Kerry Yates (Ruth) of WinstonSal­em, North Carolina; and grandchild­ren Heidi Zentner Simmons, Kristopher Zentner, Kyle Yates, Ellen Yates, Carolyn Yates, Caroline Dillon, and Cameron Dillon. Nancy also adored her five great-grandchild­ren. She is also survived by daughter-in-law Crystal Yates and sisters-in-law Doris Yount, Karen Yates and Lorraine Yates.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, May 7, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McKinney — d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA. A funeral service will be held immediatel­y following the viewing, beginning at 1 p.m. and officiated by Pastor Kyle Yates. Interment will take place at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Knoxdale.

Memorial contributi­ons may be made in her name to the American Heart Associatio­n, or to the charity of the donor’s choosing.
