Punxsy council considers return to committee meetings

- By Larry McGuire Of The Spirit

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Punxsy Borough Council President Jim Bianco said at Monday’s meeting that he was looking at possibly having council revive the committee meetings to give residents more time to express themselves on certain topics.

Bianco said that in the past, they held the committee meetings a week before the regular council meeting. Some were held on different nights, and others were held altogether in one night.

Punxsutawney Mayor Rich Alexander said it helps the people in the community express problems in their area in a longer format.

“The citizens and council would know what is going on,” Alexander said, adding that instead of committee meetings, council could also have work sessions like the Punxsutawney Area School Board has the week before their voting meeting.

“I’m not telling you what to do, but a work session would eliminate a lot of people trying to discuss their topic in three minutes,” Alexander said.

No formal decision was made, but council members agreed to give the matter further consideration.
