PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsutawney Lady Chucks softball team was home on Wednesday afternoon against the visiting DuBois Lady Beavers, who took advantage of some Punxsy errors to win 4-2 and move to 12-1 in the season.

The loss moves the Lady Chucks to 9-7 in the season.

A single by Laci Poole to score a runner in the first inning saw the Lady Chucks take a 1-0 lead until the third inning, where the Lady Beavers had two unearned runs to take a 2-1 lead at that point.

Then in the fourth inning, two more unearned runs saw DuBois take a 4-1 advantage.

In the seventh inning,

Poole had another RBI single to bring the final tally to 4-2.

Poole was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Brooke Young went 3-for-4 with a double and two singles. Karli Young hit a double, and so did Avary Powell. Also, Brooke Skarbek, Emily Dobbins and Brynn Hergert all had one hit apiece.

On the mound, Ciara Toven worked seven innings, with three walks and four strikeouts.

“Ciara threw one of her better games of the year today against one of the better hitting teams we have faced so far this year,” said Punxsy coach Brad Constantino. “She held them to seven hits, and she really had a good command of her pitches and kept a lot of their hitters off balance.”
