Philipsburg-Osceola wins 7-3 over Lady Chucks in 12 innings
PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Lady Chucks softball team found themselves in a long battle on Monday afternoon at home against the visiting Philipsburg-Osceola Lady Mountaineers.
By the fifth inning, Punxsy was up 2-1, but by the end of the seventh, the Lady Mountaineers had tied it up 2-2, forcing extra innings.
After 12 innings, Philipsburg-Osceola went on to win 7-3, which moves the Lady Chucks to 9-8 in the season.
“We had a lot opportunities and we didn’t take advantage of the chances to drive in the runs,” said Punxsy coach Brad Constantino. “We needed a hit here or there to get us over that hump.”
Brynn Hergert had three hits and one RBI for the Lady Chucks, while Ciara Toven had two hits (a single and double) and one RBI. Also, freshman Brooke Young had one hit and one RBI.
On the mound, Toven worked all 12 innings, walking four and striking out nine.
