Lady Chucks finish regular season in 2-1 loss to Lady Dutch
PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsutawney Lady Chucks softball team finished the regular season at home against the St. Marys Lady Dutch.
In a close affair, the visitors went on to pace ahead of the Lady Chucks for a 2-1 win. The loss moves the Lady Chucks to 9-10 ending into the postseason.
“We pretty much played on even terms with them, but we came up a little short today,” said Punxsy coach Brad Constantino.
In the second inning, the Lady Chucks’ Brooke Skarbek had a sac fly to score Milaydi Hilliard to make it 1-0.
However, the third inning proved to be crucial for St. Marys, as four important hits brought in two runs that helped secure the win.
A strong pitching game from Ciara Toven saw the Lady Chucks hamper anymore efforts from the Lady Dutch to add in anymore points.
Toven threw three of her eight strikeouts in the last two innings, and she worked all seven innings and walked two.
Toven also had two hits (one single and one double), while Brooke Young had one hit.
