Parente receives May girl of the month honors
PUNXSUTAWNEY — Nevaeh Parente, the daughter of Ashley and Justin Parente of Coolspring, is the May 2022 Punxsutawney Career Women’s Club girl of the month.
Parente is a senior enrolled in the academic curriculum at the Punxsutawney Area High School.
In ninth grade, Parente joined Envirothon and SADD. In 10th grade, she participated in Bible Club and Drama Club. She participated in musical theater in 10th, 11th and 12th grade.
She ran track in ninth grade and then moved on to golf in 10th, 11th and 12th grade, lettering in that sport all three years.
Parente has participated in both instrumental and vocal music during her entire high school career. In ninth grade, she performed with the Marching Band, Jazz Band and Concert Band. She has been a member of choir since 10th grade, served as choir treasurer in 11th grade, and as choir president in 12th grade. Beginning in
10th grade, Parente was also involved in Show Choir, Women’s Choir and Select Ensemble. As a junior, she earned a trip to the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District Choir, and as a senior, she attended District, Region and All State Choir through PMEA.
Parente was given the American Legion Award in ninth grade. She was inducted into the National Honor Society in 11th grade. This year, she was also one of the variety show directors.
She recently received the Class Hearts award that is voted on by the student body. She was also awarded the Career Woman’s Club Scholarship.
Outside of school, she volunteered and worked through the AmeriCorps organization, working with the students at the Punxsutawney Area Elementary School. Her hobbies include singing, playing piano and spending time with her family and friends. After her graduation from PAHS in 2022, Nevaeh plans to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania to major in elementary education.
