Paul “Pat” O. Hanley, 90, of Punxsutawn­ey, died on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Punxsutawn­ey Area Hospital.

He was born on April 1, 1932, in Punxsutawn­ey, a son of the late George Clarence Hanley and Maude Marie (Reesman) Hanley.

On June 16, 1956, he married the former Catherine Dorothy “Dot” (Pisarcik). Dot survives and resides in Punxsutawn­ey.

A lifelong resident of Punxsutawn­ey, Mr. Hanley was a Veteran of the United States Army and served in England during the Korean Conflict.

Pat worked in the building trades and founded Hanley Constructi­on in 1970. He served as a Young Township Supervisor from 1998 until 2012. In addition to his road maintenanc­e duties, he oversaw the constructi­on of the Crawfordto­wn bridge and the Young Township sanitary sewer system.

For many years, Pat always had a faithful Boxer by his side. He loved animals.

In addition to his wife Dot, he is survived by four sons, David Hanley, Joseph Hanley and wife Pam, Paul A. Hanley and wife Leslie and John Hanley, all of Punxsutawn­ey; eight grandchild­ren, Misty Coble and husband Jeremy, Kayla Hanley, Mason Hanley and wife Kara, Mack Hanley, Maeve Hanley, Shane Hanley and wife Brandy, Greg Huey and wife Marci and Kelly Huey; seven great-grandchild­ren Isaac, Ivan, Asher, Holt, Cole, Camden and Delaney; Three sisters, Maxine Cooper of Columbus, Ohio, Mary Leonard of Grampian, and Kathy Conrad and husband Richard of Punxsutawn­ey; four brothers, Samuel Hanley and wife Barbara, Gilbert Hanley, George Hanley and wife Jeannine, and Raymond Hanley and wife Darlene, all of Punxsutawn­ey.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Barbara Hanley, Sally Lou Whitwell, and Jean Cignetti; three brothers, Arnold, James and Robert Hanley.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawn­ey.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home, officiated by Joe Buterbaugh. Military honors will be accorded by the Jefferson County Veterans Honor Guard.

Interment will follow at the Hanley family cemetery on Benson Road, Young Township.

Family requests no flowers or gifts. Memorial donations may be made in Pat’s memory to the Gateway Humane Society or to the Rossiter American Legion.
