Deborah A. Gillung, 74, of Brookville, died early Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2022, at her home following a courageous 15-year battle with cancer. During her battle, she never complained and always remained optimistic.

Born in Sigel on Feb. 2, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Henry Cook, Sr. and Clara Spooner Cook.

After graduating from Brookville High School, she attended Robert Morris Junior College.

She spent approximat­ely 20 years as county auditor; she then retired from Eldred Township as the secretary. Currently, she was serving as Eldred Township tax collector.

She was a member of the FOE No. 983 Ladies Auxiliary and was involved in politics for many years.

Those surviving include her son, Tim (Amy) Gillung; her daughter, Amber (Brett) Siar; her brothers, James (Linda) Cook and Phillip (Bonnie) Cook; her grandchild­ren, Corinne, Blake and Ella Siar and Carter Gillung; and her pets, Charlie and Cricket.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Henry Cook, Jr., and her companion, Ernie McPherson, as well as the father of her children, Don Gillung.

Her family will receive friends on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2022, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Furlong Funeral Home, 50 Broad St., Summervill­e, with an additional hour on Monday, Aug. 8, 2022, from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the funeral service.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, Aug. 8, 2022, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Steven Kornbau of Brookville Zion Church officiatin­g.

Interment will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Sigel, Jefferson County.

Her family requests donations are made to the charity of one’s choice.
