BROOKVILLE — The Brookville Area Jr./Sr. High School held a career fair on Wednesday for 10th- through 12th-grade students, to give them better guidance in going forth into their future careers.

Career fair organizer Colleen Prechtl said a variety of companies and organizations were in attendance.

“We do this so that students can have more awareness of companies in our area. Today we have the Air Force, Coast Guard, Beverage Air, Miller Fabrication, BC3, Famco, Matson Lumber and Niagra Cutter,” she said.

She said the fair is a way for students to see if what they are interested in can line up with a career path.

“In 10th grade, the students are still figuring out what to do, so coming down here allows them to talk to the companies and see if any of the interests or hobbies they are currently involved in line up with any of the work these companies offer, so that they have more of an idea of what or who they want to go work for. In 11th, they might be old enough to apply for summer jobs. The students can fill out applications right here,” Prechtl said.

She said they also offered a virtual reality sets that had 27 career simulations pre-loaded on them that the students could experience.

BAHS principal Ruthanne Barbazzeni said this was a great way for the students to see how they can further themselves and the community.

“This is a great opportunity for our students to find different local businesses and career opportunities that they can invest themselves in and support their community,” Barbazzeni said.

Owen Fleming said the fair gives them a chance to see what they have to look forward to after graduation.

“It’s an overall great experience; it shows us what we can look forward to after we graduate,” Fleming said.

Several of the students indicated they were glad to be at the event.

Wyatt Lucas said he was enjoying the fair.

“I am really enjoying this fair; it really shows us the jobs that we can all do,” Lucas said.

Hunter Whitlatch said he likes seeing what is on offer after high school.

“I think this career fair shows off all the opportunities we have after high school,” Whitlatch said

Jesse Lucas said he really enjoyed taking advantage of the virtual

reality experience.

“I am really enjoying the career fair so far. I got to personally experience a job type on the VR system and I’m really looking forward to the rest of the fair,” Lucas said.

Joseph Siegel, Matson Lumber, said the reception of the fair had been good and elaborated on the opportunities that

Matson Lumber has to offer.

“It’s been fantastic so far; we have met a lot of nice young people. Our entry-level position offers a stepping stone for more specialized positions. The only requirement is that you are trainable and you show up to work everyday. It’s a local job that the students can make a really nice career out of,” Siegel said.
