The Punxsutawney Spirit

This week at the Punxsy Memorial Library

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Plumbing, depending upon the type, can last between 20-70 years (www.ranckinc.com). Less than that for businesses and public buildings, as it generally gets used more frequently.

This past week, we had a day where 27 Phil visitors came into the Library in under one hour. The majority of them used our public restroom, ignoring the signs that say these restrooms are available for library patron use. This building was completed in 1974 (49 years ago). Just a fun fact for those concerned over the fact that we are trying to keep the bathrooms (and the library) open for our patrons only.

Recently, we have been having issues with the plumbing, and we’re attempting to take preventative measures to sustain the current aging pipes and all that entails. So if we ask if you are a patron, please don’t take offense. We are trying, to the best of our ability, to keep the library and the bathrooms open for our patrons.

Library cards, which are proof of patronage, are free to everyone who lives in the Punxsutawney Area School District (Bell Township, Big Run Borough, Gaskill Township, McCalmont Township, Oliver Township, Perry Township, Punxsutawney Borough, Ringgold Township, Timblin Borough, Worthville Borough, Young Township, Banks Township, Canoe Township and North Mahoning Township). The information you provide us is always kept confidential.

If you have lost your card, you can get a replacement for $1.50 (the cost to us). If you don’t want to pay to replace a lost library card, each September we replace them for free. Just something to keep in mind.
