F. Elizabeth “Betsy” Quinlisk, 86, of Punxsutawn­ey, passed away unexpected­ly in her home on Friday, Jan. 19, 2024.

The eldest daughter of William and Frances (Hufnagel) Quinlisk, she was born on Aug. 28, 1937, in Punxsutawn­ey.

Betsy graduated from Ss. Cosmas & Damian High School in 1955. She was a 1959 graduate of Immaculata College, earning degrees in economics and accounting. Betsy went on to work at the University of Pennsylvan­ia in Philadelph­ia as a computer programmer. She then moved on to a long career with IBM, first as a systems analyst and then as an internatio­nal corporate internal auditor. Betsy was one of the first women employed by IBM and loved her work, traveling the world.

She regaled her nieces and nephews with stories about her work and being on the ground floor of the computer age.

Betsy was predecease­d by her parents and her brother-in-law, James D. Bowser. She is survived by her siblings, Judy (Richard) Shaffer of Hermitage, Michael (Annette) Quinlisk of Ligonier, and Anita Bowser of Punxsutawn­ey. She is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews and numerous grand-nieces and -nephews. Betsy was a devout Catholic and devoted to her family. She was dedicated to giving back to the less fortunate in the communitie­s in which she lived. Betsy will be remembered by her family and friends for her abiding faith, her great sense of fun and her generous nature.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawn­ey.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2024, at Saints Cosmas and Damian Church, with Monsignor Joseph Riccardo officiatin­g.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Punxsutawn­ey.

Memorial contributi­ons may be made, in memory of Betsy, to SS.C.D. School, 205 N. Chestnut St., Punxsutawn­ey, PA 15767.
