Norman Allen Mitchell II, 66, of Punxsutawney, passed away March 25, 2024, at Magee’s Women’s Hospital.

He was born on Jan. 30, 1958, the son of the late Norman Allen Mitchell and Rebecca Larraine (Johnson) Mitchell. On April 20, 1996, he married the love of his life Carol Ann (Veite) Mitchell, who survives.

Norman was a dedicated, hardworking machinist; he retired from Femco after 41 years of service. He was incredibly talented in designing parts and tools; he could make them with precision. Norm was not one to use a computer but preferred to scratch it out on paper from the vision in his head.

Norm was often an advocate for other people; he always wanted to see that they were taken care of.He loved going backpacking, hunting and fishing in Potter County with friends. Spending time with his wife and grandchildren in the mountains was his idea of a good time. He is fondly remembered as being “fun” as a grandparent; he was always thoughtful and kind to them. Norm collected coins and was happy to show off his collection to the grandkids, over and over again. He often took them along to coin show and events. Music was a big part of his life; he loved to bellow out a tune to entertain himself and others. “Fun” grandpa even took the grandkids to their first concert, which happened to be Alice Cooper.

In addition to his wife,

Carol, Norman is survived by his two children, Nicole Martinez and husband Oscar of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, and Stephen Yeager and his wife Mary of Anita; five grandchildren, Destiny Aiello and husband Gage, Laila and Rowan Martinez, Nirelle and Mali Dahan; four brothers, Steve “Peachy” Phillips and wife Missy of Rochester Mills, Kenneth “Chopper” Mitchell of New Castle, Robin “Fred” Mitchell and Kim of Punxsutawney and Timothy Mitchell of Luthersburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved grandson, Dylan Yeager.
