Elk Run donates to Punxsy K-9 unit

PUNXSUTAWN­EY — At Monday’s Punxsutawn­ey Borough Council meeting, the police department’s K-9 unit received a donation from the proceeds of the Elk Run Volunteer Fire Company’s recent auctions.

Doug McAfoos, Elk Run chief, presented a check for $8,200 to Punxsutawn­ey Borough Police Chief Matt Conrad.

“It will be utilized for certificat­ions, training and equipment needs,” Conrad said, adding that it can also be used for any medical issues that may arise.

He thanked the Elk Run Volunteer Fire Company for their donation.

In other business: • Music in the Park: The Music in the Park committee requested permission to hold the annual series on Thursday evenings beginning at approximat­ely 6:30 p.m. and ending by 9 p.m. The series is tentativel­y scheduled to begin on July 11 and continue every Thursday up to and including Aug. 29.• Borough Paving: Hager Paving, Strattanvi­lle, was the low bidder for this summer’s paving projects, which include:

— Milling of asphalt, $18,506.25; asphalt binder course, $376.25; asphalt wearing course 9.5mm in place, $126,902; asphalt wedge curb in place, $813.75; project total $151,598.25.

Eric Story council member, reminded the other members that they will accept no change orders.

• Central Fire Department: Council approved a motion moving Central life member Rick Bosak to active status.

• Spring Cleanup Schedule: The borough announced that spring cleanup will run April 22 to April 26, branches less than six inches in diameter will be chipped and yard debris will be collected.

Yard debris must be placed into compost bags. Compost bags can be purchased at various stores in town.
