Edgar Lyle Vance, 87, of Punxsutawn­ey, passed away April 16, 2024, at Mulberry Square.

He was born on June 1, 1936, in Falls Creek, the son of the late Harold and Florance (Lamberson) Vance. On Sept. 14, 1956, he married the love of his life Carole Ruth (Kline) Vance, who preceded him in death on March 10, 2015.

Edgar started his career as a machinist for Spear Carbon and worked his way up to be being a foreman with Acme and retired from Barrett Machine.

Edgar was the oldest living member of the Punxsutawn­ey Alliance Church.

He was an avid hunter and outdoorsme­n. He enjoyed his garden, tending to his orchards and his greenhouse. He took pride in having a large harvest of apples, pears, peaches, and other fruits that he gave away to others.

He will be remembered for being a hardworkin­g, honest, Christian believer. But above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfathe­r, and friend.

Edgar is survived by his two children: Tami (Vance) Roach of Youngstown, PA and Gary Vance of Rossiter; four grandchild­ren: Miranda Fetter and her husband Tom, Jeremy Vance, Ashley Mikhail and her husband Eddie, and Billy Vance and his wife Krista; four great grandchild­ren: Declan Vance, Kastor Vance, Kinsley Mikhail and Isabella Fetter; two brothers: Clarence Vance and James Vance and his wife Kaye; a sister, Elenor Sharrow; a special friend, Janice Hoover and her family; and his wonderful neighbors, Rex and Lori Lettie.

In addition to his parents and wife, Edgar was preceded in death by his son-in-law, William Roach; two brothers, Harold Vance and Melvin Vance; and two sisters, Caroline Vance and Martha Kosky.

The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc. Punxsutawn­ey. A funeral service will immediatel­y follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Don Jones officiatin­g. Burial will be in Beechwoods Cemetery, Falls Creek.
