Chucks Track and Field takes part in 59th Butler Invite
BUTLER — The Punxsutawney Chucks Track and Field team took part in the 59th-Annual Butler Invite on Friday, with 92 teams taking part, and finishing in the top eight earned the athlete a medal.
"Besides the PIAA State Meet at the end of the season, this is the secondbiggest track meet we compete in all season,” said Chucks Head Coach Jason Grusky. “To make the podium here is an enormous accomplishment.”
He added, “The level of talent at this meet has a way of bringing out the best performances in our athletes. I'm very proud of how our team pushed their abilities to the limit to earn their success."
Senior Brett Dean took fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.58, which was also a new personal best (previous best: 22.75) and moved him to third on the All-Time List. His finish is also the fastest 200 time in District 9 AA so far this season. Dean also placed fifth in the high jump with a mark of 6-01.
Dean was followed by fellow senior Garrett Bartlebaugh, who took fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.32, which was also a new personal best (previous best: 52.44) and moved him to eighth on the All-Time
List.
This finish is currently the top time in the event in District 9 AA.
Bartlebaugh also qualified for Districts in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:05.55.
Greg Poole, another senior, took sixth in the discus with a throw of 131-08, which was a new personal best (previous best: 126-06).
His mark ranks as the third best in District 9 AA so far, and he also qualified for Districts.
In the 300-meter hurdles, sophomore Jordan Rutan qualified for Districts with a time of 43.74, which was also a new personal best (previous best: 44.54).
He also holds the third fastest time in District 9 AA for this event.
In the 3,200-meter run, senior David Kunselman finished with a time of 10:10.96 for a new personal best (previous best: 10:25.24). That finish was the third best in D9 AA so far this season, and it also qualified him for Districts.
Senior Aiden Cameron qualified for Districts in the 100-meter dash with a new personal-best time (previous best: 11.81) of 11.63. That finish is currently the 10th best in District 9 AA.
Also, sophomore Adam Manners had a mark of 41-01.5 in the triple jump, which was a new personal best for him.
