REFUSING to Compromise
How INFINITI’s cutting-edge technology empowers the drive for us all.
For nearly 30 years, the drive to innovate has remained a part of INFINITI's legacy in the premium segment, and has yielded many groundbreaking advances in all areas of vehicle development. In terms of INFINITI's powerful, high-performance tech, the best has only gotten better for 2018. After impressing drivers and critics alike for nearly a decade since its first addition to the prestigious Wards 10 Best Engines list, the ubiquitous 3.7L V-6 engine of the 2016 INFINITI Q50® and Q60® has been replaced with the most advanced V-6 engine INFINITI has ever produced: the 3.0L, twin turbo VR30DDTT.
Combining the benefits of smooth and immediate throttle response with high power delivery, this uncompromising 3.0L twin-turbo engine empowers drivers with 300 hp and 295 lbft of torque from within the 2017 and up INFINITI Q50 sports sedan and Q60 sports coupe, and a whopping 400 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque in Red Sport 400 trim, all while improving efficiency1 over the outgoing engine. Cementing its status among the best engines made, the 3.0L Twin-Turbo V-6 in the INFINITI Q50/Q60 has been named to the Wards 10 Best Engines list for the second year in a row.
Toward the end of 2017, you might have seen headlines of a revolutionary new engine that bridges performance gaps like never before, with the world's first production-ready variable-compression-ratio design. Enter the all-new INFINITI VC-TurboTM engine: the product of more than 20 years of development, 100 prototype engines, a million kilometers of testing data, and available today in the all-new 2019 INFINITI QX50 luxury crossover.
The VC-TurboTM engine's design adds an innovative Multilink mechanism to the piston, connecting the rod and crankshaft design of a conventional internal combustion engine, to prompt very small changes in piston height and combustion chamber volume during operation. This allows for compression ratios as high as 14:1 to be used under lighter throttle loads for more fuel-efficient1 combustion, along with compression ratios as low as 8:1 when high turbocharger boost and generous amounts of power are needed.
What's more, the Multilink system of the INFINITI VC-TurboTM engine is able to do all this while significantly reducing friction and vibration inherent in conventional combustion engines. Combined with other innovative INFINITI technologies, this new engine helps improve fuel efficiency1 in the all-new INFINITI QX50, while also helping to provide a noticeably smoother, more responsive drive.
INFINITI's mission to empower the drive doesn't stop with revolutionizing the technologies of today. As gasoline infrastructure adapts and rescales to meet drivers' growing demand for electrified vehicles, INFINITI innovations will continue to empower drivers into the future. Within the next three years, select INFINITI vehicles will combine instant torque delivery and throttle response, drastically reduced tailpipe emissions, and other benefits unique to EVs with the freedom from needing an emergency charge, thanks to INFINITI e-POWERTM, a small gasoline engine designed to charge and extend the range of high-output batteries in INFINITI's electrified vehicles.
Offering a glimpse of INFINITI vehicles set to debut a little farther down the road is the award-winning Q Inspiration Concept: a driver-centered expression of what's possible by combining innovative technologies like INFINITI e-POWERTM, high-capacity batteries and powerful electric motors with expert craftsmanship, and the incorporation of future generations of INFINITI's ProPILOT Assist driver-assist technologies.2 INFINITI estimates driver-centered electrified vehicles will comprise more than half its global sales by 2025.
So whether you're looking for breathtaking acceleration, potent performance and a confident connection with the road, or if increased comfort, convenience and connectivity with the world at large are your priorities in a premium vehicle, you'll find an uncompromising new INFINITI to empower your drive - now, and into the future.
