RACING ELEGANCE At The Quail
The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering long ago established its place among the world's most prestigious automotive events. The quality of the cars equals any major concours, and the setting is incomparable, on the floor of a valley in the shadow of the Santa Lucia Mountains. What sets it apart is the unique combination of experiences that includes luxury vendors, multiple test drive opportunities in exotic cars, and the cuisine. The latter is considered the high point of the week in that category. This year's food service areas will showcase the specialties of Hong Kong, Bangkok, New York, Carmel Valley, Italy and Tokyo. No matter how sophisticated one's palate, they will be satisfied. The gelato stands, artisanal cocktails and winery tasting facilities are the icing on the cake.
The selection of cars on the field is more sporting than any other event of the week and the classes represent the finest cars of their type, curated with an eye toward design, performance and accurate historic preservation.
The Quail has had a long association with Bonhams, and their auction is held on the grounds concurrently with the show. Watching is both amusing and exciting, with the drollness of the auctioneer alternating with the electricity of the bidding wars that develop.
Strolling the field, one sees not only the great cars of history, but personalities from all manner of car-related businesses, as well as some of the world's greatest collectors, current and past racing drivers and media and entertainment stars who are also car enthusiasts.
In addition to the usual classes, there will be special displays this year of 70 Years of the Iconic Porsche 356, The Alois Ruf Reunion, the 50th Anniversary of the Lamborghini Espada & Islero, and The Great Lancias.
Unfortunately, the day ends all too soon, but we know we will greet you as a guest again next year.
