Picture Perfect
Josh Nelson got really serious about photography in the summer of 2018, one year after taking a photography class during which he says he “learned how to actually use my camera rather than just leaving it in auto mode.” Now he has shot the cover for this year's The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering magazine, marking a rapid evolution in his career.
I've always had a passion for mechanical things. As early as I remember, I loved trains, trucks, cars, and pretty much anything that moved. However, my passion for cars was what prevailed over all of these fascinating machines, and I recall liking them more because they simply went fast. A lot of things contributed to this, things like the original Cars movie, and spending hours on end playing car-based video games for a lot longer than I'd like to admit, but it attributed to a love that I am thankful to have today. I picked up a camera for the first time at a local weekly event called South OC Cars and Coffee event in early 2015, and since then I haven't been to any car related event without taking photos of some of the finest automobiles in Southern California.
I became really serious about my photography in the summer of 2018, where in the school year prior to that I took a photography class where I learned a lot about post-production and how to actually use my camera rather than just leaving it in auto mode. In that timeframe; from then until now, I have been fortunate enough to have met a lot of people in the automotive community, from exotic car owners who have what seems like garages containing every car under the sun, to some extremely talented photographers who I am glad to call my friends.
Now, here I am shooting for the cover of The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering magazine, it's a real honor, as it has been a dream of mine to even attend the event, let alone be the photographer who creates the image on the cover of the magazine for this prestigious show.
This is truly a dream come true.
