1952 Cunningham C-3
Thomas Coady – Florida
When Briggs Cunningham halted production of the C-3 S, 14 chassis remained in various stages of completion. Since these chassis were never turned into cars by Cunningham, the cars built on these chassis are sometimes referred to as "Bastards”. This car was the next car in line to be bodied when production ceased. In 1955, the West Palm Beach facility was closed, and the remaining chassis and parts were sold. Chassis 5235 was sold to Jack Shakespeare of Indiana. In 1957, John Hanley of Wisconsin commissioned Brooks Stevens Design Associates to design the coachwork. The coupe design features a top reminiscent of the Loewy-styled Studebaker and a front end like that of a Chrysler 300C. The body was built by Bob Jones of Indianapolis.
