Flavor Cafe opens in Watervliet
WATERVLIET — Following a soft-opening over the winter, the Local Flavor Café had its official grand opening Friday at their 19th Street location.
The family-owned business is a supplier of only New York state products and features local food from area businesses.
“We are very grateful to the City of Watervliet for their help in securing a grant, and their subsequent support of our business,” said Heidi Flynn, owner of the Local Flavor Cafe. “The community seems ready for something a little fresh and different in the food arena, and we are excited to be able to showcase so many New York state gourmet foods.”
All shelves in the 620 19th St. business hold products only made in New York, typically by small producers. For example its coffee, tea, milk and sodas are bottled, packaged and roasted in New York state. In addition, the Local Flavor Café has been a supporter of Watervliet’s farmers market for years, developing and marketing its line of spreads, toppings and baked goods.
Some of the featured local businesses include DeFazio’s, Goold Orchards, Caroline’s Kitchen, and the Peanut Principle.
“I’m proud to welcome the Local Flavor Café to the community as we continue to foster new opportunities for business in Watervliet,” said Mayor, Mike Manning. “The Local Flavor Café brings a lot to the city and the rest of the business community by using local products, supporting the economy right here in our own backyard.”
The City of Watervliet supported the Local Flavor Cafe with $ 10,000 in assistance through its Local Development Corporation and through a $ 25,000 Community Development Block Grant obtained through the New York State Office of Homes and Community Renewal’s CDBG microenterprise program.
The business’ hours are 6 a. m. to 8 p. m. Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Grand opening festivities, including free samples, continue today.
