It’s welcome to NFL for this rookie player

Cam Newton is now officially “welcomed” to the NFL. After suffering a humiliating loss to the 49ers in front of his home crowd in Carolina, Newton hurried off the field after burying his head in his hands and appearing to cry on the sidelines. He could not fathom his own ineptness leading to the big choke job. His two interceptions killed his team.

Much like the Three Laws of Motion by his namesake, Sir Isaac Newton, Cam’s day stayed in motion to disaster, he created an equal and opposite reaction to winning and he accelerated to the locker room.

Meanwhile, the 49ers celebrated their mauling of the Panthers with a champagne toast to Cam.

Welcome to the NFL Rookie!

Federal government has no business doing this

Kirstin Gillibrand just doesn’t understand the form of government set up by our constitution and founding fathers - a constitutional republic. Rather, she seems incapable of suppressing her socialist ideology. Her latest misguided proposal involves the federal government taking money from employers, employees and the self- employed which it will redistribute under a so- called “Family and Medical Insurance Leave Act” [introduced in the House as HR 3712].” But the federal government has no business interfering in this manner, has no business taking more money from already depleted worker paychecks. That’s right - she will raise your taxes again - and if you’re self employed you will pay twice the amount that employees and employers will pay! (See Section 7 of the bill that raises your taxes).

The socialist playbook says to use emotional issues to seize power from the people. Gillibrand’s latest proposal does just that. Who could be against mothers and fathers taking care of ill family members and children? But under our form of government – one that limits the power of the federal government to certain enumerated areas and leaves all the rest to the states or to the people, Gillibrand’s proposal has no legitimate place.

And where in the constitution does Gillibrand claim the power for this bill? Under the abusively broad “Commerce The superintendent of Troy schools saying someone will be at the meetings from now on. Why doesn’t he say she will be at the meetings. The assistant superintendent? She’s the one who breached. If a union employee breached, there would be a letter in their file and they would be suspended without pay. Wow. It’s Wednesday, 10:14 a.m. four days after the snow storm and the poor mailman is walking down the middle of Brunswick Road because not one person on Brunswick Road after Stewart’s has shoveled their sidewalk. Where is the code in this city? Are they waiting for the mailman

In support of her bill, Gillibrand cites to California’s experience with a similar scheme where between 2004 and 2012, 1.4 million Californians took paid leave to “care for a family member or bond with a new child.” The state of California is now virtually bankrupt – and this scheme no doubt contributed to its dire fiscal situation. She also cites to a more recent program in New Jersey. But under our form of government, states are free to try new ideas. If they work, other states may decide to copy them. If they don’t, citizens of other states will not suffer the same adverse consequences. I suspect most states will not want to duplicate California’s disastrous programs or replicate its bankrupt economy. Yet Gillibrand, in her bill, seeks to impose this program on every state and on every employer, employee and self- employed person in the nation – under the Commerce Clause.

We need to stop this ill- advised and unconstitutional proposal and urge Senator Gillibrand to read and study the constitution and storied history of this great nation. If that doesn’t change her socialist agenda then perhaps she can run for office in China, North Korea or some other more appropriate place for her ideology.

Why doesn’t the city of Troy enforce the sidewalk rule, cleaning them after a snowstorm? Hats off to Mayor Lou Rosamilia for having the sanitation workers come in on New Year’s Day. Taxpayers don’t mind paying a bill as long as they can see the benefit of where their money is going. I can’t believe that we are not allowed emergency HEAP. I have been getting emergency HEAP for some time because I only make $6 a month. Please, Gov. Cuomo, we need your attention.
